Daphne’s Skin and Sookie’s Backbone: Discussing “Scratches”

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for True Blood season 2 episode 3, “Scratches”. Don’t read any further if you don’t want to be spoiled!

Wow. Anybody else need to catch their breath after that episode? Sookie is attacked and has to see a doctor who isn’t terribly impressed with Eric. Jessica and Hoyt might be the cutest couple ever. (We know we aren’t the only ones who developed a crush on Hoyt; we have the Twitter replies to prove it!) Sookie slaps Eric, rescues Lafayette and proclaims to Bill that she doesn’t see any good in Eric. Tara gets a wakeup call at Maryann’s. Lafayette returns home, looking vulnerable and scared. Jason briefly provides the voice of reason at the FOTS leadership camp. Pam’s favorite pumps were ruined. And in classic True Blood style, the episode ends with a close-up of Daphne preparing to skinny dip with Sam (lucky girl), and a clear shot of the scratches on her back that match Sookie’s.

Um, what? So Daphne is…an attack survivor? Is she possessed? And just what WAS that thing? Meanwhile, Sookie stood up to Eric and sparks flew. Is this the beginning of something bigger? Or will she continue to view him as pure evil?

Post your thoughts on this week’s episode below, but please don’t post spoilers for future episodes!

**If you haven’t read the books or any casts interviews you may want to avoid this post.

I hope this is the beginning of something new. I’m loving Eric’s new haircut. I wasn’t much of a fan of him in the books but the makeover has officially swayed me to his side. As for the Daphne thing, I have no idea what that is all about. Dr. Ludwig said something about the creature poisoning its victims and waiting until they can’t fight back before it attacks but Daphne does not appear to be dying a slow death. I think the creature is an incarnation of Maryanne or is one of her minions (the bull is a symbol of Dionysus I think and we all know she enjoys her Bacchus revelry). My guess is that she is a shifter and heals quickly so she hasn’t been affected by it much. I don’t think she is working in cahoots with Maryanne because they didn’t appear to recognize each other in the last episode. The only thing I’m truly worried about is an interview I read with Nelsan Ellis about his character’s relationship with Eric. I really hope he is implying that Eric’s character is looking for a new mignon and not something else because that would ruin the hopes of a E&S hookup.

    • Amber says:

Did anyone else notice on the last episode, during Tara’s birthday party. When Maryann begins to feed off everyones energy, and chanting, she digs in the ground. When she raises her arms after digging she has only three fingers (claws)! Which resemble what would have been used to claw Daphne and Sookie. I have read through all the posts and it seems noone else had realized this. I would be strongly willing to bet she is the one he performed the attacks.

      • Galen says:

I noticed it, it was front and center at the end of the episode. But I am wondering what are the ramifications of “Barry the telepathic bellhop”.

        • Amber says:

It is obvious that Maryann is the one doing the attacks due to this discovery. I am wondering if Daphne is a pawn of some sort for Maryann. What if Maryann had attacked Daphne, thus discovering she is a shapeshifter, and is now using her as a sort of decoy for Sam. She had stated she had been a waitress previously, yet knows nothing of how to waitress. I feel like Daphne is there as a distraction to keep Sam. I did a little research on Maenads (*spelling) and it states they feed on the energy of lust and madness from those who have been drinking. She may need Sam as a source, since he is a bar owner and so close to the towns people, to keep them drinking when her parties are not in play. I know that sounds a little confusing, LOL. Maryann may also be keeping Tara so close because she is a bartender. It all roots back to one key ingredient, alcohol. I definitely feel like Daphne is a pawn of Maryann to keep Sam in check.

  2. AJ says:

I am so glad to see the Eric and Sookie relationship starting to develop. I am a big fan of their relationship in the books. I didn’t ever think that I would be on Team Eric but I am definitely excited to see how it develops in the show.

And I was shocked to see Daphne with the scars. Intriguing! Can’t wait to see how that ends up.

    • Krystal says:

Maybe you are the only one who never realized it? I think everyone else pretty much already knew from the time the thing attacked Sookie, that it was Maryanne.

      • Amber says:

THat was not what I had meant, alot of people are continuing to speculate, so i was just pointing out the claws. ALot of people are still wondering if indeed it is maryann or not. It is just my theory in the sea of theories posted on this site. That is the fun part, sharing ideas of wherethe show might be heading.

  3. Debbie says:

Considering that when Sookie’s scratches were healed by both Dr. Ludwig’s treatment and Bill’s blood, you didn’t see any leftover scars on her back, but with Daphne, that wasn’t the case. It’s obvious that she isn’t human, but who knows what she could be as Alan Ball doesn’t make it too obvious who’s human and who’s not. It’ll be very interesting to see what’s going to happen in future episodes between her, Sam, and Maryann. I think we’re now just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

    • Loeva says:

On the contrary, the fact that Sookie does not have scars and Daphne does could simply mean that she didn’t have a Vamp boyfriend waiting in the wings to heal her up. It actually proves that she IS human. She may be a shifter though-which may be why she survived, and why she knows that am is a shifter too.

      • Kelley says:

Using that same logic, why would Sam not realize that Daphne is a shifter was well? Thats the whole thing that throws me for a loop. I thought I had Daphne all figured out, but then I remembered, with Sam’s sense of smell… you’d think he’d know whats up but he seems genuinely surprised by Daphne.

  4. Laura says:

This is just a guess… But could Daphne be a werewolf? Maybe the scratches on her back came from a werewolf attack? I dunno, just something I was guessing. Anyone else have any theories?

  5. Zach says:

I almost wonder if Daph is the create that attacked Sookie. I mean, maybe she’s not a were wolf, but a were creature of some sort. I’m assuming that creature that attacked her was a were creature since Bill’s blood made Sookie foam at the mouth.

    Very interesting episode.
    ******

With Sookie and Eric, I feel like a love scene is imminent somehow.

    • Nancy says:

I think this theory could be the best one yet.

    • angie says:

I high doubt that since I don’t think Allen Ball would change a major plot point like the attack on Sookie by the Maenad (who was confirmed as being the Mary Anne character already)

      • Kelley says:

The poison from the attack is what was preventing Bill’s blood to heal Sookie and cause a negative reaction, because if it had been a regular were attack of some sorts it would’ve worked. Also, keep in mind if Sooks was attacked by a were, she’d possibly become one as well.

  6. jenny says:

I think if we take Daphne’s name literally then she is a water nymph. I just am not sure how that fits into the story line yet. Obviously she will be some sort of lover to Sam along with being supernatural. Which would explain how she was able to survive the scratches made on her back. I am anxious to see all this unfold.

    Team Eric all the way.

  7. michael says:

dudes, Maryanne is the Maenid. She feeds off peoples Hate, Fear, and Lust. She resonates when those feelings are strongly felt. The pig is her butler guy i think. Im surprised Laffayette isn’t dead yet. Im glad though. Hes a great character. I think Daphne is indeed a werewolf. Eric mentioned a recent werewolf attack to Pam in “Scratches”. Pay attention.

    • Craig says:

I wonder if Daphne is the pet of Pam’s that Eric mentions

    • Nicole says:

I thought Maryanne was more like Pan. In greek myth Pan is depicted with horns and goats legs like a faun – like that creature that attcked Sookie – and Pan was thought to be the son (child) of Dionysis — Greek myths were so sexist! Also, I remember that in the movie Pan’s labrinth the creature pan lured the kids by providing that feast table — similar to Maryanne’s lucious fruit spread.

      • Jazmine says:

thats a good point because i loved that movie and Maryanne is always having feast and eats like crazy!!! i wanna know soon! :)

        • Chelsea says:

Also in one episode there is a mural behind maryanne’s pool that depicts Pan.

          • Jessica says:

Well Sookie got attacked AFTER Tara was asked to move in, Maryanne (if your theory is correct) could have been behind the attack, becuase im sure she isnt keen on Tara leaving so soon… so i think this all fits

          • Jess says:

No, Pan was the lover of the Maenid. The Maenid is a creature who served the god of the grape. Therefore, was served by people drinking alcohol. All of the behavior that is created by alcohol and amplified by Maryann is like worship to her and she strives on that because she’s a Maenid.

          • Kelley says:

What sort of suprised me is the day or so after Sookie was attacked, and she’s on the phone with Tara, Maryann looked sort of suprised to know that Sookie was still alive. So, hmm…

    • Krista says:

Wouldn’t Sam be able to smell that she was a were though????? That is what does not make sense to me. I think she has something to do with MaryAnn because I think the creature was MaryAnn.

  8. Jennifer says:

Eric did mention a werewolf attack, but he, Pam & Chow also said the tracks were human & the scent was animal. It was not a scent they have ever smelled and Eric said he’s never seen or heard anything like this before. It’s frustrating because in the books, this attack was meant as a message to Eric and he knows exactly what it is. Oooh, Alan Ball … you have us befuddled!

  9. Majel says:

If Daphne were a werewolf or shifter of any kind, Sam would know. Their heightened senses give them away to each other. But it’s clear there’s something supernatural about her. I am mighty intrigued.

It was great to see Sookie’s temper flare for something that really merited it. We are starting to see more of the tough, resourceful Sookie – finally!

    Eric and Pam – priceless!

    • Chelsea says:

      SPOILER WARNING
If you read the episode summaries available for the next few episodes, it appears that Daphne does know / find out about Sam’s shifting. So I think they are both shifters – although daphne may be a werewolf and thus could sense each other.

  10. Angi says:

I enjoyed all the tender moments with Sookie and Bill. I seriously thought Bill was going to cry when Sookie was in pain. I do believed he jumped when the doctor touched her. I love that he wouldn’t leave her and how he fought Eric to make sure he was the one who gave her blood to heal. I loved the talk in the car and their moment on the porch before it was interrupted. More Bill and Sookie…less Eric please!

  11. Sarah says:

More Eric all the time–the chemistry between Eric and Sookie is electric. Loved Hoyt and Jessica. Anyone think that LAyfayette might replace the Bubba character in the books? Food for thought.

    • JenG says:

Agreed, Lafayette would make the perfect bubba replacement, because bubba is such an important character in the books, always having some role to play, and making that be lafayette would not only fill that, but also keep tara in on everything due to thm being cousins, but I agree with the above comment as well, i hope its nothing more between eric and laf than master minion, that is not a direction i want to see.

      • Maggie says:

        I agree completely!

      • Dee says:

As much as I love much as I love Lafayette I don’t want them to replace Bubba. Besides all the stuff Bubba does who he is plays just as an important part. The fact they have to hid him and him being dim witted cause issues that would play in really good to the series.

  12. True Blood Fan says:

I’m excited for more Sookie and Eric, although this was supposed to be the first time Eric has Sookie’s blood. That was disappointing. I’m a little nervous about this Lafayette/Eric storyline Alan Ball has going. I really hope it’s nothing of a romantic nature……

    • Sarah says:

      That would be horrible.

    • Fangbanger says:

I agree. It would devastating. The Eric/Sookie story line too fascinating to be lost.

    • Nancy says:

I agree. I would much rather see Lafayette’s character replace the “Bubba” character from the book than Eric and Lafayette having a relationship of some kind. Eric and Sookie belong together. Alan Ball please don’t change that part of the story! P.S. Alan we definitely need to see more of Eric!!!

      • Kelly says:

Although Lafayette could take the place of Bubba, don’t we all really want to see Bubba? I vote for Bruce Campbell! Check him out on Facebook and let him know! He would make a great “you know who”!!! I am not the only one who thinks so. Check out the HBO site.

  13. Mic says:

The only thing enjoyable with Sookie and Eric is their banter/snide remarks to each other. After reading the series of books, I am really holding out on the ‘Bill camp’.
There is more to Bill than is being let known.
As far as the scenes in the episode where Sookie is attacked…wish they would have gone with the book more on those scenes.
Daphne…well, Sam has to have someone.

  14. nickie says:

I don’t think it was Daphne that attacked Sookie. Daphne was working when Sookie was attacked because she was short at the end of the night. I do think she is some kind of a shifter though. Sam seems a little lost in his own problems to pick up on it. But then again anything could happen.

I think Maryann sent the creature to attack Sookie because of her wanting Tara to move in with her. This season is very different from the books. So its very exciting and frustrating at the same time.

I can’t wait to see the Sookie/Eric relationship is gonna go. You can tell that part of her likes him. The way she looked at him before she left his office. And we all know that Eric is interested in her.

The season is off to a great start! too bad we gotta wait 2 weeks for the next episode.

  15. Maggie says:

I loved that Sookie smacked Eric and stood up to him. He totaly did not expect that I also think that clearly he lusts after her, did you see the way that eric looked at bill and sookie when bill gave her his blood! I cant wait for the relationship to start between those two! and Jessica/Hoyt that was priceless! I hope that they continue with that story line. I think tara is finally waking up! and Jason well he will always be lost I think. GO TEAM ERIC!

  16. Leigh84 says:

could that creature that attacked Sookie have been Maryanne? I read that a Maenads, along with being drunken and crazy, would also rip apart bulls and even humans in their escapades. maybe the bull head and claws are just the producers on the show’s creative take on depicting Maenads. it makes sense to me.
also, could the scars on Daphne’s back be a sign that she is connected to Maryanne (if Maryanne is the bull-human-thing). could Daphne be one of Maryanne’s pawns? in the preview for episode 4, at the very end, I’m pretty sure that is Daphne’s voice at the end saying “I know what you are”, maybe Maryanne is controlling her to mess with Sam?
I’m sorry if this sounds too far-fetched but all the other theories about Daphne and such make sense as well, I was just thinking about a different take on this very exciting development.

  17. Setty says:

Loved this episode!! A little thrown with Sookie saying she hated Eric. I’m a bookie and that’s just so off for me but I’ll wait patiently to let AB’s genius unfold. I just hope that the Eric/Sookie relationship at least gets a spark this season. I do believe that it was MaryAnn who attacked Sookie. I think that she didnt want Tara to move out. As far as Daphne goes, when I saw the scratches, the only thing I could think of was revenge. I think she’d have to be supernatural to live throught that but also maybe she followed MaryAnn into town to exact her payback. Just a thought. The one question I was left burning with was why was Eric back at LF’s place in the previews. I’m utterly lost…lol. Hope it’s not sexual because that would be to far fetched for me.

    • Dee says:

‘A little thrown with Sookie saying she hated Eric. I’m a bookie and that’s just so off for me’

In the earlier books though Sookie really didnt like Eric. He kind of grew on her but what I gathered from the books was she hated him at first. Dont get me wrong Im totally Team Eric. I love him and Sookie together. But this episode has come the closest for me to the relationship Eric and Sookie had in the book.

      • Setty says:

I get what you’re saying but I dont ever remember Sookie saying that she hated Eric. In book two the witty banter begins and she is annoyed by his advances but she also is comfortable enough to ask him to accompany her to the orgy. She trusted him enough to ask him. If anything she always seemed to enjoy his humor and I loved that! I’m hoping that it gets worked in.

        • Dee says:

The only reason she asked eric to the orgy was because bill was out of town and he was her only choice. Bill told her that while he was out of town if she needed anything to go to eric. So she really trusted bill not eric. The only reason she needed eric at all was because she needed a vampire as an in to the orgy. I think the majority of her trust from that experience.

          • Setty says:

lol…she didnt need a vampire as an in to the orgy. She’d already been invited. Bill may have been out of town but he would never wanted her to ask Eric to take her, remember how pissed he was because she smelled like ERIC. And if you go back and reread Sookie said that she TRUSTED ERIC to take her and he said “Sookie that’s crazy.” And Bill never said she should go to Eric for anything other than if Bill bit the big one….lol

  18. George says:

The scene in Bill’s house with Jessica and Hoyt was the most believable interaction I’ve seen on the show. Once again the whole Jason arc is dragging.
Really loving the Jessica character. Pam is also really great.

I’d love to see Sookie, Pam ,and Jessica in some kind of meaningful scene before its over.

There are some character attitudes that are stretching the boundaries of believability for me. Too much to go into here.

Why would Eric be going after Lafayette?

…and we have to wait for two weeks.

  19. Julie (Amber) says:

This episode was amazing. I do not think Daphine is working with Maryanne, but definately was attacked by her in the past. She has to be some sort of supernatural creatue to have surrived. And I do think it was Maryanne that attacked Sookie. I love the character Jessica and how they’re matching her with Hoyt (love him too by the way- there is notheing but eye candy on this show!). I think it would make sense if they used Layfette in place of Bubba from the books and I think he is the one who is going SPOILER- to have the PTSD. I really hope they do not link Eric with Layfette sexually, that would be the biggest slap in the face to all the Eric fans and it’s not necessary.

    • Dee says:

It makes no sense to me for Lafeyette to replace Bubba. I would love if they found a way to keep him around but I’m going to be very disappointed if they dont include Bubba. Bubba was one of my favorite character from the books. I mean Lafayette died in the book but even if they dont kill him off he cant do the same things Bubba can. The only way Lafayette can replace Bubba is if they make something wrong with him too but then would we really want him still around then. He wouldnt be able to keep the same personality.

      • Chelsea says:

I haven’t read the books but it does seem like Lafayette’s character is changing, he is really damaged and will not be the funloving flamboyant character he was in the past

        • Dee says:

See that part of my problem. I dont like Lafayette as much this season as much as last season because he doesnt have that witty personality.

  20. Rebecca says:

You know things are going to get good when Eric,Pam and Chow can’t figure this out yet.I think Daphine is this thing or she is connect somehow. I loved Sookie and Eric in this part. It was so good. His looks were priceless sometimes.I may be wrong but i don’t think Maryanne has a hand in this yet.Things are really going to get good now. Makes you wonder what elsa is in the shadows.

  21. Phaze2 Henry says:

Am i the only one that noticed the Dog was scared to jump in the water when Daphne showed up. Where is Sam going? What does the pig have to do with Maryann?

    • Kelly says:

Remember the pig and the naked woman that Tara almost hit with her car? In the books, the Maenad stalks the woods with a wild pig at her side – don’t want to say too much -

    • Linds says:

Ok, i totally noticed the dog afraid to get in the water. If we go with some other people’s ideas about Daphne being a water creature of some sort, it makes a little more sense. Maybe. Once again, more questions, few answers.

    • Krista says:

I noticed that too and for a split second thought perhaps that Daphne was the dog . . . but then it showed them on the screen at the same time . . . Sam is leaving town cause he is a big chicken.

I think the pig is a symbol of gluttony and it would make sense if the pig is Karl.

  22. Jazmine says:

E&S hook up is going to happen sooner or later. I mean does anyone remember on Buffy how her and Spike were? That’s how they will be I know it! A love hate hot sex realationship lol. An wtf is up with Daphne? I knew she was off. Tara’s story line to me is sweet but starting to get boring & as someone of color I would love to still have some more interesting black people on the show not just 3 out of 50 but that’s on another note… I need to know what attacked Sookie and also when that one leadership of the sun chick is going to jump Jason’s bones cuz you know she is! lol

  23. Steven says:

I think Daphne is the pig.
The pig disappeared after Andy took another look. And then at the end Daphne shows up out of nowhere. Daphne and Maryann probably played dumb in the bar to show they don’t know who each other is. It’s plausible.
They also both show up in Bon Temp at the same time.
    Just a speculation..

  24. Karenoh says:

I’m really happy that Alan Ball has departed so far from the books (which I also really enjoy). It means that I have no idea what is going to happen, so I’m on tenterhooks the whole episode. My only complaint is that there won’t be one every week, all year.

  25. Nick says:

Wow! So many questions following this episode. First of all, what’s going on with Jason. I can’t wait to see what happens when he comes back. And what’s up with him and the preacher’s wife together?

And Steven, I think your comment could be dead on!

Can’t wait for the next episode

  26. Nancy says:

Love the show, but I wish Alan Ball had stuck closer to the books storyline. Had Alan Ball stuck closer to the books, Eric and Sookie would at least have some bond to each other by now. Sorry Bill, Team Eric all the way! P.S. Pam rambling about her pumps was priceless. A Girl has to love her shoes!

    • Maggie says:

Actually, in the books eric gives sookie his blood in the 3rd book. But still, since Alan has departed from the books already he may have Eric give her blood this season.

      • Sarah says:

Not true–Sook sucks the bullet in two.

        • Krista says:

yeah and the whole Dallas thing hasn’t happened yet. I REALLY hope that part plays out . . . I would suck a bullet out of him any day lol. Team Eric ALL THE WAY!

          • Amber says:

Its funny cause I am from Dallas, and the show is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy off in depicting our city….but that is Hollywood for you! LOL

  27. Annie says:

I also think Daphne is the pig, and I it would be cool if Layfette was the “Bubba” of these books… Bubba is so cute and adorable though, I hope Layfette is as loyal to Sookie as Bubba is (which he would be, if he were turned, because Sookie saved him.) I REALLY hope Eric is there to turn him, not to do something *ahem* else.

I see Eric as 100% into guys, and I see him as 100% attracted to Sookie. I’m upset they didn’t share blood… I hope they do soon! But I LOVE the look Eric gave Bill as he gave his blood to Sookie. I also love that he resisted killing Sookie when she SLAPPED him! (Go Sookie!) I think True Blood is straying away from a lot of the side plots in the books (Eric keeping Layfette prisoner, etc) but I LOVE it and think it’s still giving the feel of the books. Everything seems to be right on track with the relationships between Eric, Bill and Sookie.. you can feel the chemsitry working between all of them.

Maryann is such a cool addition, and I want to know exactly what she is! I keep thinking Greek goddess, Maenad… but I keep wondering, is that laungage she was speaking even from this WORLD? (Fae, possibly!?!?)

I also think Jason is gonna get into some BIG trouble soon.

And I am SO glad Tara started wising up!

Why do we have to wait two weeks?! :(

    • Maggie says:

She was speaking Greek and I think that as with most of the vampires in Charlaine Harris’s world they are “omnisexual” but I think that eric is not just attracted to sookie cuz of her body and her telepathy but also cuz she is spunky and independent and truthful!

  28. Jen says:

Any chance Daphne is that minotaur thing?? Cause that’s what I’m thinking is a real possibility! You know, like she changes back and forth and that’s why Sam’s dog friend was so nervous before she showed up. Craziness is all I can say!

  29. Kelly says:

So where can I buy a petticoat?

  30. Sammy says:

Nelsan has said in interviews he will NOT become a vampire, at least not this year..he finds himself with new power and importance to the vampires especially Eric. he did not mention sex…Alan has said no Bubba. No one mentioned “Mrs. Newlin doesn’t get her pudding out for just anybody” or Jessica “If I wasn’t dead already I could die of embarrassment” when her fangs came out.. hehe

    • Linds says:

Yeah, the Newlins are definitely creeping me out. She is either pretending to be really into Jason to keep him in the church, or she is really into Jason, and if that’s the case, they’re totally going to bang really soon and all hell is going to break loose. Remember when they were ‘role-playing’ last episode and he freaked out, like PTSD, and grabbed the flag pole and almost staked Mrs. Newlin? It left her all breasts heaving and smiling and totally turned on. The way it’s playing out right now is kind of slow, but I’m realllllllllly interested to see where it’s going. I haven’t read the books, so everything is new to me!

  31. Emily says:

Wasn’t that Daphne swilling from a bottle at Maryanne’s party?

    • Setty says:

Thats what I thought when I’d seen the previews but when I saw the actual scene I wasn’t so sure :o ( ….lol. So many questions and very few answers but loving every minute!

  32. nikki says:

i think eggs is the bull thing that attacked sookie.
what does maryanne want with tara?

  33. daisy hicks says:

i think that it was a minotaur that attacked her but one that is kind of a hybrid because acording to the ledgon they didnt have poisonus claws what do yall think? as for who did it i think that it was marryannes cook whats his name?? there just seems to be some thing wrong with him. and as for marry anne her self i think that she is the egyption goddess hathor if you look her up it decribes marry anne perfictly.

  34. cooper says:

    SPOILER ALERT

Maryanne is the maenid, the thing that attacked Sookie…as for Daphne surviving she’s got to either be a werewolf or a shifter…Sam would notice yes, but Sam’s been so off the wall knowing that Maryanne is there maybe he overlooked it?

I wish Sam wasn’t a collie…out of all the things you can change into, cant he go figure out how to change into something awesome…like a LIGER!

  35. Dasha says:

Did no one notice the presence of two pigs there? One wild big one and one small one. If one of them is Maryanne’s butler who is the other???

  36. Sarah says:

Could it be possible the creature that attacked Sookie is the offspring of Mary anne and Sam? They did do it when he stole her $$$. It would make sense because Sam can turn into anything which would justify the bull/claws/komoto dragon combo. Just a thought… with Alan Ball the possibilities are endless!

    • Sarah says:

oh yes and the statue of the Goddess of fertility when her hands are raised, she did do that when they were doing it which could have made her fertile at that very moment???

  37. penny says:

I’m really perplexed by all of the negative comments about Eric and Lafayette’s possible relationship. Eric struck me as bisexual in the books (remember his encounter with Bernard in Book 3? Didn’t seem all business to me).

What is to stop him from pursuing Sookie if he’s fooling around with Lafayette? He’s a vampire, this is not High School Musical.

    • Maggie says:

I agree that the vamps are bisexual including eric (i.e. the story eric told of his turning and bernard) but the focus of the books was erics desire for sookie in all ways and remember in the books he and Pam were sexual for awhile as well. Me personally, I hope that the focus will be on sookie and not on lafayette, altho it would be hot but still I would like to see his desire for sookie to be more prominent.

      • Sarah says:

I agree–I’m not against Eric being bi-sexual. I just really want to see Eric and Sookie which I really thing will happen. Just the way he looks at her–it is subtle but it is certainly there.

        • Maggie says:

Indeed! I believe you are right, just how he looked at her when Bill(ick) was giving her his blood, we just know its gonna happen. Hopefully, this season but I have a feeling not till next season, if they pick it up!

          • Sarah says:

I watched it again today–I know I am sick! If you get a chance to–check out when Eric tells Dr. Ludwig that Bill is quite attached to this human–he glances sideways at Sookie–it is an intense three seconds!

          • Sarah says:

BTW–Maggie. I agree with the ick on Bill–I have read all the books and have always been team Eric–he is so much more interesting and pleasurable to read about n every way.

        • Maggie says:

sarah you are again so right! I never really liked bill and then what he did to her in book six unforgivable! great minds sarah great minds!

          • Maggie says:

hey I am addicted to and dang proud of it! I am gonna watch it again tonite!

          • Setty says:

I’m with you girls. It seems that I always run into BL’s. I loved Bill as well, in the first two books. Book three left me flabergasted…lol. Book six left me heart broken on Sook’s behalf…lol. So yes ICK on BILL. Eric is definitely my fav so GO TEAM ERIC!!!

          • Sarah says:

I did like Bill in the first book–enough to keep reading and wonder where their romance would go but he turns out to the biggest jerk ever–no woman would go back to him after everything he does to her. And although, Eric can be high-handed as Sookie calls it–I think he would never do the things Bill did–maybe because he is so much older and seen it all? In general I find Eric much more complex and Bill more straight forward which bores me a bit.

          • Maggie says:

I think that Eric (in the books at least) was always strait and truthful with her. He may not have told her everything but what he did was always truthful but what bill did was just, to me, one of the worse things that can be done to someone. I would love it if in the show we see more of that but like I said earlier it probably wont happen till season 3! Lets all hope that their will be a season 3.

          • Sarah says:

A season four would make me even happier. Eric fans would be rejoicing.

          • Maggie says:

Can’t argue with that at all! (psst I secretly hope for 4,5, etc)

          • Sarah says:

I flipped through Club Dead last night–I forgot how intense the several scenes between Eric and Sook are—Whoa! A season three would be great!

          • Krista says:

Well if you notice in Season 1 we did get a hint of WHY that whole Bill/Sookie thing came about when Bill told Eric that Sookie MUST be protected. If you will recall Eric said ‘that sounded more like an edict but he would know something like that right???’

I personally can’t wait for Sookie’s eyes to be opened as to what a jerk Bill really is . . . and awww Eric will be right there to pick up the pieces. Lucky girl!!

          • True Blood Fan says:

I think a season 4 would be efing fantastic! After reading book 9 I some how wish I would be able to see Sookie with the “real” Eric…book people know what I mean (I didn’t want to give anything away)

Was Daphne the woman leaning up against the tree drinking wine topless as Tara storms in to the house? I have looked at the screen caps and I cannot tell.

Thanks in advance. Scratches was a GREAT episode!

  39. lilmommy0420 says:

So, I was having a discussion with friends on FB about what the hell Daphnee was and this is my theory:

Sookie and Daphne had matching scratches, right? And the doctor said that the scratches let a poison in and if the poison wasn’t taken out she would die. So how is Daphnee still alive? My theory is that Daphne was turned into the creature….like a Wendigo who if anyone on here were Charmed fans would remember that Piper was scratched and infected and turned into a Wendigo. It also fed on flesh and ripped out the heart of someone who betrayed it (just like the woman who betrayed Tara got her heart ripped out.) However, I don’t think a Wendigo has horns so I’m going to look into the that Pan theory!

  40. Zech says:

I think that daphne is either the monster itself or being controlled by it. I originally thought that.. ugh i forgot his name the white cook at the bar that got pissed off at sam was the monster with claws. and.. eric’s cool but Bill and sookie cant break up.. he’s getting even more awesome in the second season. that would just be wrong..

  41. JD says:

I thought MaryAnne was a Circe because they are a mother of a minotaur and whoever offended her she would turn them into animals (pig)
Daphne I have no idea what she is

  42. Shelbye says:

In scratches eric does indeed tell pam there has been a werewolf attack near by. and then in an interview with the woman who plays daphne, she states that there is a clue in the episode scratches, but she wont give it away. so i think its obviou she is in fact a WEREWOLF!! should be interesting..

  43. caseyrenee says:

“MAYBE YOU’LL WARM UP TO ME…”

    “i’D RATHER GET CANCER!”

    LOVE IT, PRICELESS!

  44. fillup says:

I think Daphne is a shifter and is in fact Maryanne’s pig.

  45. Galen says:

I think that Maryanne is the pan creature and I think that Tara boyfriend is her son of sorts. Which would make him a Satyr and I think that Maryanne is trying to couple them in order to reproduce more of her kind. I just so happen to be a fan of Greek mythology, well all mythology and especially nymphs, satyrs, and Pan. I am not sure who the scratches play into the plot. But I think that it is probably a way of being selected for the orgy like party. Also on that note is it me or has anyone else made the connection to Maryanne being the mysterious lady running in the woods, from the first episode. Usually Nymphs are tied to a specific local. Now Granted this myth, much like the vampire myth has been slightly tweeked. But maybe Maryanne is tied to the place she hunts. And the scratches are a mark of those who she is kulling. I can’t make hide or hair of the pig thing, except that it might be one of Maryanne’s forms. A pig being a voracious eater and a highly sexual animal, which is a prolific reproducer.

The next question would be why Tara? chance maybe

    • Amber says:

In the beginning I thought perhaps she was targeting Tara because she new Tara and Sam had a “thing” and she wanted Sam for herself. I thought shemight be distracting Tara from Sam. BUt now I am not so sure!

      • Galen says:

well she said she is being so good to tara because she is a flower that blooms when she is happy. so that could mean that like a bee she is taking some type of nuishment from her blooming or like she needs her to come into full bloom in order to produce a child or offspring or something.

  46. Galen says:

oh and a telepathic bellhop with something to hide? Why did he run? Is he scared of Sookie because she might read his mind and find he is a spy for the church? lol

  47. Galen says:

ok I agree with the circe idea but mixed with the pan mythology.
