Chatting with Anna Paquin
I just finished taking part in a live chat with Anna Paquin that took place at the L.A. Times’ Gold Derby, hosted by Tom O’Neil. It was a crowded house and overwhelming, at times, but Anna is a trooper and spent about 20 or 30 minutes with us before she had to go for a costume fitting for episode 12. From this chat, I’ve compiled a list of things you may or may not know about this lovely and talented actress.
- Sookie may not have any tatoos, but Anna does.
- Anna has seen every episode of Alan Ball’s “Six Feet Under” at least 3 times.
- Anna works out a lot to keep fit; yoga, pilates, boxing, anything that involves moving.
- Anna’s personal vampire preference: “Bill all the way!”
- Anna would love to do another play.
- Anna wishes she was naturally tan and blonde, but glad she’s not really a telepath.
- Sookie is NOT Eric’s biggest fan.
- They film in Baton Rouge next week.
- Anna read the books while pursuing the part.
- Anna likes Fleet Foxes and Fiona Apple.
- “Fake blood tastes like congealed, gooey jam that has been pureed.”
- Anna knows what Daphne is, but she’s not spilling.
- Anna can sing, but hasn’t since school choir.
- Anna gets home to New Zealand about once a year.
- Anna does not own a car or know how to drive.
- Anna does have a Hello Kitty beach cruiser.
- Anna does NOT have a MySpace page.
A few more things about Anna that she mentions is she loves her life in L.A. and her Golden Globe win was a complete shock to her. She has a lot of respect for all the women on the show. “I really admire all the women on my show. I think Rutina, Deborah, Mishka, and Carrie are all extraordinary.” She also thinks Jessica is “amazing”. We agree, Anna!
Anna Paquin in "True Blood"
Anna is delightfully feisty and not afraid to say it like it is. Someone mentioned a MySpace page that had Stephen Moyer proposing to her, and her response was simply, “Yeah, I love reading things about my life that are FICTION.” Anna goes on to say, “A while back, someone posed as me on Facebook and said I was in hospital. Which was funny because I was on set at the time and have never been in hospital since I was born. Thought it was a bit thoughtless because if that info trickled out to friends or family, they would be worried… ya know?”
About Sookie, Anna has this to say: “Sookie gets to do so much cool shit. She is in action scenes, romance, drama all of it. It’s really, like, I get to play every possible “type” of female character on one show.”
Anna is not really thinking about the Emmy’s or any other awards right now. She’s completely wrapped up in the world of True Blood. However, she is honored to be in the same category as Holly Hunter (Saving Grace). And she keeps her Oscar and Globe on a counter top at home in her bedroom.
Anna has no problem filming the nude scenes. She says, “I knew what I was getting myself into.” They are not finished filming the second season of True Blood yet, and she doesn’t know what the hiatus will bring. I hope she gets some rest so she’s fresh for season three, which she shamelessly plugged for during this chat. “No official word on season three, so please, keep watching and keep your fingers crossed!”

ugh. this is precisely why i hate it when actors start dating off screen- everything gets swayed. i would’ve thought that by the time episode 12 filmed sookie would slowly start being an eric fan. i really hope alan ball doesn’t feel the need to keep bill and sookie together because anna and stephen are dating. that would be totally unfair to the legion of eric fans.
Wow!Do you actually believe that Eric belongs with Sookie?? I hope people are talking about the characters and are not blinded by the actors playing the characters. Both Stephen and Alex are hot…
@ana marie: dunno if cara had the characters or the actors in mind -although i would think she meant the characters- but when u read the books you tend to get pro-eric somewhere around the middle of book 2. By the 4rth you are team Eric all the way! That doesn’t go or everyone of course, everyone has their own preferences, but what i’m saying is that Sookie and Eric have a great chemistry in the books and Alan Ball hasn’t shown that yet in the show. I hope he will though and soon because I’m deffinitely Team Eric. He is doing a great job so far and I love the series but i wouldn’t mind seeing some of Eric’s softer side sometime soon.
@cara: cara I agree that Bill and Sookie don’t belong together! I can see Eric fit her so much better and can’t wait to see some Eric and Sookie action soon! I think we got a glimce of that at “scratches”. But although Alan Ball appears to be Team Bill so far, I am sure it’s not because Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are dating.

Ok first I’m team Eric, although even if I wasn’t I think Allan Ball will follow that part of the book. they seem to be keeping the most important parts of the book even when their going off book. So far the only think I’ve heard their going really off book for thats actually important is Bubba and thats not because Allan doesnt want to put him in its because he couldnt figure out how to do it and not seem cheesy.
I don’t understand why you think Sookie should be with Eric, she obviously hates him because he keeps doing awful things to her and people she cares about. Bill is so much more “lovable” than Eric, I don’t even understand the fascination with Eric
If you read the whole sookie stackhouse novels then you would know why evryone thinks Sookie and Eric should be together… TEAM ERIC ALL THE WAY!!!
Has it occurred to you that possibly people have read the books and are able to analyze beyond the superficial? Things are not always as they seem with Eric and some are able to believe in Bill.
Honestly after reading the books I dont know how you can still like Bill after what he did to Sookie. I like her and Eric because Eric is always honest with her regardless.
Wow…just wow! Maybe Anna read the books and still likes Bill. Why does it bother you so? I happy for them both. I am glad they found each other.
It is not possible that Eric is not what is meant for her. Sorry. What you call “the superficial” is obvious, Bill left Sookie, raped her, and initially seduced her based on an order from the Queen. He doesn’t deserve to be hers. Harris will make him a slight player again before Eric wins her. The whole of 5 or 6 books was showing how impossible it is that Eric and Sookie belong to eachother, yet they do. And no matter what, he’s always cared about her whether he was aware or not.

I AM Team Eric but unfortunately I doubt Eric will be the final choice Harris will make Sookie make. Meanwhile, I think we should keep some of the details of the books out of here so that we don’t ruin it for those who haven’t read them.
Sookie never called it rape. She knew Bill was starved and hadn’t ate when he was held captive. Charlaine already stated on her website that Bill was sent to observe and report back to the Queen. The Show is it’s own thing and book readers need to get over it.
Whether she called it that or not it was still rape she was unwilling. As for the show being its own thing, so far they have keep all the major aspect of the book there is not sign that they wont be keeping bills betrayal in there too.

I hope there is a season 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. If they remotely go along according to the books, even going off on a few tangents, the series will be awesome. Book 3 and 4 were my favorite books so far. For those who haven’t read the books, borrow or buy them, they’re awesome and give you some background also.

Well there are over 700 people who don’t know it isn’t her. I definitely don’t think it’s her responsibility to fix it, but she’s got to have a publicist or someone who could take care of it. I’m just thinking that the person who is doing it is really scary. Some of the “personal photos” they have on the page look like stalkerazzi photos. It’s disturbing…the person even has an “authentic” celebrity certificate from Facebook stating that they are who they say they are.
She’s awesome. I hope there’s word on Season 3 soon. There’s still so many stories left to tell. As far as her being on Team Bill- why am I not surprised?! That’s okay, Eric has us!
She just doesn’t realize she is Team Eric yet. I think Sookie personally enjoys hating Eric right now. Just wait til after she has his blood. ;-P
Not everyone is a team Eric! I am currently reading the books, and I have not been able to find Eric endearing. I find people just jump on the bandwagon and don’t evaluate things. There is a difference between lust, need, love and soulmate. NO, Eric does NOT have everyone…

I think Alan Ball is reading between the lines, and he also knows that there are just as many fans for Bill as there are for Eric. Don’t kid yourself.

If you’ve read the books I don’t know how you could be a Bill fan! I can understand not jumping on the Eric bandwagon it is crowded

wow, how can you remotely be on Bill’s side after he raped her, after his “sex”, after he was ordered by the queen to seduce her, he’s quiet- brooding, and stuck in his era.
Sookie and Eric are soulmates. They have real bond during intimate times, and he is actually with a personality that matches Sookies kick-ass sass.

soooookey I AM a big Eric fan and I do hope they end up together but I can see how people -and there are many out there, believe me- would want to see her end up with Bill. I wish I could say Bill is an asshole who doesnot deserve her and that he stands no chance, but I wouldn’t find it incredible if Sookie chose him again -or someone else altoghether. Harris has made her characters very complicated, which is good, and their actions always have more than one levels so being so absolut means that maybe you haven’t “got real”? I know people who are pro-Sam or pro-Alcide or pro-Quinn even. Everyone has their preferences.
Don’t get offensive with people who don’t share your views.
I understand people not being on the eric bandwagon. I can see how he can be off putting but i can not understand still liking bill if youve read all the books.

I agree Cara, I am definitely not on the Eric, bandwagon. He’s tricked her so many times and I think if it were not for the blood bond the relationship wouldn’t have gone as far as it did just my opinion though. It’s like a drug your senses are heightened for a hot minute but, unfortunately hers maybe for life.
I think if Sookie and Eric do get together I may have to stop watching the show. I am so team Bill
Well, it’s hardly surprising that she’s team Bill when she’s in love with Moyer as well.
As I am a fan of Eric, in the books especially, I hope that the show will stay true to the books when concerning the love triangle between Sookie, Eric and Bill. And we’ll have to remember that at this point only Charlaine knows how it will end. I just hope she doesn’t end the books with Sookie and some shifter being together..
My opinion is that both Bill and Eric are my favorite vampires on the show, but other than that, I don’t care much who Sookie ends up with. As long as there’s a possibility for season three, then I could care less about that because it’s fantastic show.
I started reading the books before the show started and from the begining I’ve been a Team Bill fan. In the books Bill may have lied to Sookie about some things but remember Eric uses Sookie and get’s her in trouble so both vamps have done her wrong. Too me Bill has always been there trying to save her life or keep her safe even though Sookie doesn’t care and Eric just stands in the back watching. I’ll admit Sookie and Eric had some hot scenes but to me it’s like he just wants her because he needs her for something. After reading the book 8, I really hope Bill is the vamp the great grandfather is talking about but we won’t know till book 10.
I personally think Eric always used and I can’t believe she likes being easily manipulated by him and stuff after he tells her it later.
Sookie called him on this very subject and he said that what he has told her has always, always been the truth. She may not like it and he may not have told every thing at once but it has always been truthful. Even sookie acknowledged that. To say that Bill didnt rape her or that his lying was a minor thing is to completely misunderstand the story. Sookie understood the maker/child issue, it was his lies that ripped her heart out
See the difference is even when Eric used Sookie he has always been up front about it unlike bill who lied and cheated.

Has everyone who read the book (and those who havent) forgotten that Bill was going to leave sookie for his maker. He had plans and told Pam and Eric what to do he wasnt even going to have the guts to do it himself. By the way i am not a Team Eric or Team Bill i am Team Quinn and i still think Bill is a Dick.
If you recall in the books it states that vampires have absolutely no control when their maker calls….there is no compunction to follow; they have to go. They feel overwhelmed by them and blinded. If you think Bill is a Dick then you should include Eric in this as well as he is manipulative and everything he does is for himself.
I’ve tryed to read the books. I’ve loved the first one. I’ve enjoyed the second very much, though not as much as the first. Book three was a shock, can’t say I hated it though. Book four started very bad and went downhill, had to stop by the middle and jump to the end to see if Bill/Sookie would get back. Book five and six, i’ve just flipped pages, searching for the word Bill. By the end of book six, I gave up. So, my only hope is the TV show, which seems to be going to Bill/Sookie. I just can’t stand Sookie/”anyone else besides Bill”, so I really hope that Allan Ball will stop following the books after season 2.
I really doubt he is going to randomly quit following the books after the second one. The major thing is I think he would allianate to many book and series fans by not including atleast the major points of each book. I love the books but honestly I dont mind too much that he when off as long as he has included the major parts.
