More little bits and bobs of news to share this week. If we’ve missed something, feel free to contact us!

  • Tom O’Neil at the LA Times’ Gold Derby says Alexander Skarsgard is a frontrunner for an Emmy nomination in the TV movie/miniseries lead actor category for his role in HBO’s Generation Kill. O’Neil also considers Anna Paquin a frontrunner in the lead actress in a drama nomination race. True Blood is given a “possible” for a nod in the best drama category, as is Stephen Moyer in the lead actor in a drama category. Nominations will be announced July 16th.
  • More nominees for the Teen Choice Awards have been announced, including Anna Paquin for Choice Summer TV Star: Female and Stephen Moyer for Choice Summer TV Star: Male. We have to ask: who is letting their teenagers watch True Blood?!?! The Teen Choice Awards air Monday, August 10 on FOX.
  • With all of the True Blood vs. Twilight hoopla, it must have come as a surprise to many when Twilight star Robert Pattinson revealed that he auditioned for a role on True Blood. We’re guessing he went for the role of Jason Stackhouse, although we can’t imagine anyone but Ryan Kwanten playing that lovable dunderhead now.
  • Fans in the UK should be seeing a lot of True Blood marketing over the next week as FX prepares for the series to premiere on July 17.
  • TV By The Numbers takes a closer look at the phenomenal sales of True Blood’s first season DVD and wonders if gay viewers are driving the numbers up. We have to admit, that thought never occurred to us. From our point of view, True Blood‘s appeal is much broader than the homophobic discrimination angle that writer posited. Are we missing something?
