Stephen Moyer: Bill Compton May Be Around For A While
SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read the Sookie Stackhouse novels, the following contains spoilers about Bill Compton’s future.
In an interview with TVGuide.com, Stephen Moyer addresses the question about whether Bill Compton will be around beyond the third season of True Blood, since he’s pretty much absent after the third book in the series:
“That gives Alan the opportunity to invent something,” Moyer tells TVGuide.com. “Just like last season with the V trips — they had to invent that. And they’re very good at it. So I’m confident that however they keep him there, they’ll make Bill’s story interesting.”
“What I think is interesting is the love triangle — giving your characters conflict is always much more interesting to watch than suddenly making Sookie and Eric have a relationship,” Moyer says, noting that Bill and Sookie can’t — and shouldn’t — always be happy together.
Stephen also reveals a couple of tidbits about what we’ll be seeing this season, and gleefully witholds a juicy tidbit, the punk. Read the entire interview at TVGuide.com.

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. It is what I expect. There have to be love triangles, spats, etc otherwise in perfect world, all would be boring. I look forward to Sookie exploring other men/supes. I also believe Bill will continue to be a major player. Remember, for those who read the books, he does have another girlfriend (although I believe it was just a matter of convenience and to make Sookie jealous). Bring it on Alan and HBO, I will be watching no matter what. The best entertainment on tv.
she wasn’t really a girlfriend i don’t think. portia B. (spelling-i forget). he was doing business with her. If I remember from the books right…
portia and bill wernt doing business, she and andy are his descendents in the book. their like his great, great, great, great, grand childrin.
Portia Belflour – Andy’s sister also used Bill in an attempt to infiltrate the floating sex party that caused Lafayette’s murder & implicated Andy as a suspect since Lafayete’s body was found in the car…but Bill also had another love interest, some snotty woman who sold real estate
Me, too Nia, Of course you know that I am simply addicted to our Bill.
I do look for the twists and tangle sof the various plot lines, even when Sookie and Eric finally hook up. It does add to the tension and drama.
Besides, that just leaves more Bill for us, doesn’t it, Nia?
Aslinn, I share your addiction a thousand fold. And yes, I do not mind sharing with you. Do you think Bill could handle it???
By the way, last nights episode, awesome. Bill is showing such a vulnerable side (you just want to hug him and…..), and Sookie is showing her strong undying love and desire for him (he created a sex monster in our little Sookie). It seems that Eric will use Lorena to his own ends. So much drama ahead, I can’t wait till next week.
Aslinn, when it comes to Bill, I would be willing to share and take any Bill I can get. So much man/vampire.
Thank God! I’m getting so bored with Sookie and Bill this season. I’m glad to hear things will be spiced up with a little Eric soon. A love triangle sounds perfect. I’m all for Bill sticking around, I just want to see him with someone else for a change. And the more Eric I can get, the better.
Got to keep Bill around. Sookie & Bill is the main reason that I watch TB althought a little sexual tension between Sookie and Eric would be cool too. Just don’t separate Bill & Sookie. Their love is so sweet! It gives you hope that there is still the real thing out there. this weeks bed talk was done so well that you know that they are really in love and that Bill’s love for Sookie is his breath & heart beat! Yeah, yeah I know that they are together in real life…that adds to the flavor!!!
Remember Stephen Moyer in Starter Wife…..ooooolala
Hey Vikki,
I am so with you about Bill. There is something about that man/vampire. Especially in this last episode, their love is so adoreable. Anybody notice that Sookie is becoming a little bit of a hunter? And Bill is her prey! Yum.
The Bill/Sookie relationship is wonderful but may be getting to comfortable for some, so I see conflict ahead.
Remember when Sookie is climbing back into bed (gotta love light tight vampire hotel rooms),and Bill wakes up and says “I dreamed you were gone”. Did you notice the scared, soulful, vulnerable, little lost boy look in his eyes (I wanted to be his teddy bear right then)? I think that it is a foretelling of things to come. He also says, again, during that same pillow talk, that he doesn’t want to lose her. Now steps in Eric, who has called Lorena for a little help in separating the lovers. Eric is no dummy, he must realize the strong bond between Bill and Sookie. So here comes the drama.
Can’t wait.
By the way, I have seen the “Starter Wife”, I watched it only because Stephen was in it. I loved Sam. Stephen does sweet, tortured, lovers so well, don’t you think? OOOOOOOOLALA is right.
I recommend his other works, tv or movie. I have seen “Uprising”, “The Pricess of Theives”, “Restraint”, and “Quills” (88 minutes really did not utilize him enough so it is not really noteworthy), and a number of BBC tv series and miniseries. He almost always plays the lover (no big surprise there). He is also great with humor. In “Uprising” he was able to bring love and some comedy to a sad and depressing story. He is truly an amazing actor and so deserves recogniton for his works. I can only hope he recieves many future awards for True Blood.
Hi Nia
Hi all TrueBlood fans
I didn’t read the books but I am aware that Sookie ends up with Eric in the books. It will be so sad for me because I love Bill and Sookie together. I don’t think the show has to be boring if they stay together. Just like real life they should have ups and downs but, it doesn’t have to mean a break up. I love seeing the two of them together. I like Eric and think he’s a great bad guy. I think he should be around to add turmoil not to end up w. Sookie.
I think your spot on when you made the connection that Bill’s comment to Sookie was a premonition. It makes so much sense. This episode was awesome. Stephen Moyer did a great job. He showed us Bill’s vulnerability – he never lost his sex appeal of course – and you still felt that he was a strong man and would take care of everything.
This show is so much fun. I’ll hold on to my wishful thinking and hope that Bill and Sookie stay together.
Hey Pina, always good to hear from a Bill/True Blood fan. I feel the same way about the relationship between Bill and Sookie. I would love for them to be together always. I think that in some way they will always be connected. They have such a special bond. But for the good of the show, we need to see some good drama, and that dramas name is Eric. It will be fun to see what will happen. Face it if Bill and Sookie have a fight, just think of the great makeup sex!!!!!
Can’t wait for more. I need my True Blood fix.
Hi Vikki,
I agree 100% i love love love Bill and Sookie, my friend who is a book ahead of me just told me that Bill and Sookie are going to break up. And i have been totally upset ever since, WHY WHY WHY he almost died for her how many time, how can that not be true love. And how could Sookie ever get over him… I know i couldn’t. I would love it if HBO took their own path with the show and KEPT THEM TOGETHER…so what if they fight, so what if she gets feeling for ERIC, i just want Bill to come throw for Sookie in the end and win her back…I am such a dreamer.
Also, this show is so freaking hot!
Jamie, I too got upset when I learned that Bill and Sookie may not end up together. Then again, I am Glad to know that there are a lot of Bill/Sookie fans out there. (I think the book lovers prefers Eric as compared to the show fans prefers Sookie with Bill.) I agree that things need to be spiced up to show how strong the bond is between Bill and Sookie. As they say, love is sweeter the second time around. I have great trust for Alan not to put Bill’s character behind in the next season. Bill (despite what happened in the book) I believe is the one who loves Sookie more. Eric is just so manipulative. His way of getting to Soookie sucks as compared to Bill’s loving and protective ways.
Jamie, you take the words out of my mouth. From one Bill fan to another. By the way, I have read all the books, and I still love Bill. With the books, you have to read between the lines. The big picture is missed otherwise. So, enjoy! sundays never come fast enough.
Since I don’t have HBO…!!!! I have to wait, for my pre-ordered season 2… Geez! I just watch season 1, over and over…And Bill he is HOT, what ever gal he is with! Yeah, The Stater Wife…so..so…Sexy kinda guy, there. Eric is a good looking man and I would like to see MORE of him..if ya get my drift…But, for me it’s all about, Vampire Bill Compton!!
I am so with you on that!
As I mentioned earlier, there was one scene, in this last episode, where Bill wakes up in bed, when Sookie is geting back in, and he says ” I dreamed you were gone”. I can’t get his face out of my mind! He is so beautiful and vulnerable at that point. What an actor to elicit such a reaponse from his audience.
bill is so sexy, strong at the same time vulnerable. its been ages to see a such actor showing so much class in ages. Good work Stephen!!!
I love your comment. So true about the amazing actor that is Stephen Moyer. I recommend seeing his other work. So much talent. A perfect choice for Bill. No other could fill his shoes!
As much as Bill and Sookie are cute together, a show can’t go on with everything going perfectly, so I think it’s awesome for Sookie to start warming up to Eric, even though right know she’d ‘prefer cancer.’lol Sookie kills me.
I was so upset when I heard that Sookie & Bill aren’t together in the books. I even started reading the books to investigate for myself. I can’t, for the life of me, see how anyone could be more charming and handsome than Bill. He will always be my favorite. That’s one thing that I hope they change from the books to the show. Bill & Sookie belong together. However, I do agree that there’s nothing wrong with a little drama. Eric getting in between a little bit, but ultimately Sookie & Bill stay together. But hey, that’s just me… I’m so addicted to this show. I look forward to Sunday nights like you would not believe!
That comment about sookie and eric’s relationship. ‘just because its in the book doesn’t mean its gonna happen’ just proves one of my points that adaptations to books like movies or tv shows are really just fanfictions created by producers. they did it with smallville . they did it with blood and chocolate if you have the money and if fans who have no idea with the original story is then you could have lois and lex get together if you wanted. i can’t believe any self respecting author would allow any to completely create a bastardized abomination of their pride and joy.
Personally I have nothing but respect for Bill/Sookie fans but I love Southern Vampire Mysteries so I am a Eric/Sookie fan all the way. They changed little things from the book to make Eric look like a jackass and Bill look like a hero. Sookie just looks like a girl who always needs someone to save her. Its turning into Edward/Bella/Jacob twilight situation with Bill as Edward and Eric as Jacob. To all true SVM fans I strongly encourage you all to stop watching TrueBlood if you ever started because it ultimately is just gonna piss you off
I think I will love the show no matter what. I am a true Bill fan. Not to mean that Eric is not hot, sexy, and vital to the show. Its just my personal preference that I love Bill.
I am grateful to Alan B. and HBO for this amazing show. It has given us so much to love and talk about, whether you are a Bill or Eric Fan. Lets give this show and the actors, all the support it deserves.
I think it’s possible to enjoy both seperately(so long as Alan Ball keeps a few key things). I know what you mean book Eric is portrayed a little differently than show Eric. If I were soley a True Blood watcher I would probably prefer Bill considering when I read the books I preferred Bill up until the end of Dead in Dallas. Seriously can’t wait until May 2010, I hear there are some interesting things a comin’. I really hope she ends up with Eric in the end and Bill didn’t wiggle his way back in with this last book.
While I love the show, I do agree with Denisha partially when she says that adaptations can be reinvented by producers. I notice a lot of Bill love in the comments, but Bill is originally a cold, introverted vampire, who makes a lot of selfish decisions. If fans read the books, they’d understand why Sookie decided to leave him; they just don’t work. Mind you, Eric is also completely different in the novels, albeit with the same roguish, honest demeanor. But at the end of the day, you have a love triangle that is almost unrecognizable when compared to the books. The dynamics are changed and naturally the show will run a different course from the books.
Being a self-professed book!Eric/Sookie shipper, a part of me hopes that ultimately, Eric and Sookie choose each other in the show; but I’ve come to accept that Alan Ball is going to do what he wants, so I should simply enjoy the secondary characters that he and the cast and crew have put so much time into constructing. I’m still going to hope that the show brings Eric and Sookie together in the end; and if not, then I’ll be content to enjoy the ship in the books, where I believe Charlaine’s vision lies.
I agree in most part with Denisha..because the show is already pissing me off…dont get me wrong.. LOVE THE SHOW! but not a reader of the books..may be true of the majority of watchers… so I say to the writers of the script.. to change with the readers… most of us can see that Bill/Sookie belong together..(it’s a fairytale) but that’s what we love…I also love Eric.. love is style…just dont like the way he is maniplulating things… does anyone besides me think he may know exactly where this Goddric is and that he is the trader…I think it is quite possible… and this Maryanne story line really sucks big time…it this is in fact in the books…please rid of this torment quickly…it’s making a seemly very smart Tara look very dumb and everyone around her…it’s obvious that she is a demon straight from hell… and wants to make Bon Tempe her own Hell.. why I dont know…and that’s part of the frustration in the storyline… Anyway… I too cant wait for Sunday…because I am a true blood lover…what a delicious treat!!!
Allan Ball replied to a question at comicon referring to whether the sookie/eric relationship will be developed like in the books.. Allan said one word… He said ‘yes’.. So there is no doubt that sookie and eric will eventually have something going on… and I totally agree bill should and will be in the picture always, because he is the lead, and there is no doubt even though I am a big eric fan. I know bill loves sookie. I love the contrast of bill and erics interest in sookie. They both represent different types of relationships. Love versus Lust you could say. The show needs to explore both.. Allan also talked about characters evolving and changing. Dont be surprised that the show may eventually make bill more darker. Since he has been portrayed as the ‘good’ vampire thus far, and eric vice versa; And I quote a line from the episode ‘scratches’. Bill says ‘vampires, human or otherwise are all capable of good and bad..’ So, we may see all the characters develope and show layers, which is great! Would hate for all these great characters to be one-dimensional. Artistically for the actors, they would not appreciate this either.. I will always be a big fan of the show no matter what they do!!! Love it to bits!!!
I have to say as a reader of the books and a lover of the show, I am a eric/sookie lover. For those of you saying the whole Bill/sookie is forever, you need to wait and see. Those of us who have read the books know things about bill that havn’t been revealed yet and we know things about Eric. So this is how I see it. Alan Ball has started with the Bill Sookie realtionship that is so lovey dovie and “perfect” and he has showed Eric as being this big bad mean vamp. So know in the next couple of seasons I see this switching as it sort of does in the books as you seeing the different layers of the 2 male charaters. I bet that they start showing Bill’s darker manipulative side and they start showing Eric’s caring side. They have already started this with Eric giving Lafeytte his blood and with Bills flash back to his previous life and killing mortals.
I have to say to the Bill/Sookie lovers there is a BIG reason they are going to break up and its a justified reason. Alan Ball will most likely include this part from the book because it makes since with the sookie bill break up. Bill is not this great awesome perfect guy, I’m sorry nobody is perfect everyone has flaws. It will be interesting what these people say when Bill’s start coming out.
I am really excited to see what Alan Ball does with the “love triangle” that will inevitably form between Sookie, Bill, and Eric. After watching the first season is was a complete and total Bill/Sookie fan–and then I read the books.
Which is the reason I am now a ravenous Eric/Sookie fan. But which ever way the direction of the show goes, I’ll (probably) be happy. The books and the show are separate entities to me, and though I’d be sad if Eric didn’t end up with Sookie at the end of the book series, I’m more willing to tolerate Bill and Sookie being indefinitely romantically involved on the show!
I have to say, if you enjoy the show, you’ll likely enjoy the novels–they’re easy to read and a good break from textbooks, in my experience. Oh, but beware, you might end up declaring your love for Eric!
I read the books before I even realized there was a serious and by that time season one was out on DVD. So I watched every episode as ravenously as I’d read the books. Being a “Bookie” I have to say that I tend to get frustrated with certain aspects in the show that aren’t accurate to the book, such as Eric calling Lorena to reign in her minion so to speak. It makes him out to be the ulimate manipulative villain which he his not. I have to say that no matter how I feel about the changes made to the story that I know and love I CAN’T NOT watch this show! I’m absolutely addicted and have excepted the fact that the show isnt going to follow the books to the letter, but I’m very happy to see these characters come alive on screen and I wish everyday was Sunday….lol. Can’t wait for for season four and hopefully the shower scene. My fellow “Bookies” will know what I’m talking about. I’ll definitely be watching.
I didn’t like any of the books after Bill went by the wayside. After that Sookie seemed to take up with anyone. I hope Alan Ball keeps their relationship going, because if Stephen Moyer isn’t there, I won’t be there either.
Omg i cant believe bill is bad
i nearly cried when i found out
