Eric and Sookie are the main characters NOT Bill, and he's definitely not as innocent as they make him look on the show. Nothing is ever his choice or his fault. Even murdering people in the past was because he was trying to prove he loved Lorena so somehow it's her fault. Even when Bill chased the FotS kid at Godric's, you knew the kid wasn't going to be killed. I agree with Jill's assessment too. Book Bill made some choices like ordering "room service" when synthetic blood was available and not checking on Sookie after the FotS attack. But he also tried to find her at the church, and he bathed and cared for her after she was injured. He's a mix of good and bad like Eric.
