Bon Temps’ Salvation: True Blood Discussion Post

2009

Just how many people with plans are descending on the Stackhouse property to save the day? Sookie and Lafayette have come to rescue Tara, who returned to rescue Eggs and is back under Maryann’s influence. Jason and Andy are getting ready to sneak up on the house, armed with what appears to be the county’s entire weapons arsenal and one Kevlar vest. Meanwhile, Bill returned from his fact-finding mission and landed in Sam’s front yard, presumably with a plan of his own to defeat Maryann. Will Eric and Pam soon follow? It’s going to be a bloody throwdown when the season finale airs in two weeks!

We learned some interesting tidbits that might also be relevant to the season finale, and/or season three:

  • Maryann was behind Tara’s “exorcism” with Miss Jeanette in season one. Who saw that coming?!?
  • Hoyt’s father committed suicide and Maxine’s been hiding it all this time. No wonder she’s bitter and hateful.
  • Sookie’s cousin Hadley, the one who ran away from rehab, is Queen Sophie-Anne’s current favorite human.
  • Andy has resented Jason for “having it so easy” for years. Jason begs to differ with Andy’s assumptions about his life.
  • Jessica bit Hoyt’s mom, after which Hoyt took Maxine away and Jessica lost her temper. Will she be a hormonal-teenager-with-violent-tendencies scorned?
  • Eric’s first choice of “payment” when Sam asks for help is Sookie, much to Pam’s annoyance.
  • Bill is not above threatening Eric with blackmail to keep him away from Sookie.
  • Lafayette is under Maryann’s control, despite having had Eric’s blood. Either the effects have lessened – as have the sex dreams – or Maryann is gaining power and overrode it.
  • There is a nest with a giant egg in the middle of Gran’s bed. Um…what?!?!

Any other interesting tidbits you picked up on? Anyone feel like holding a vigil for poor Karl? What did you think of Queen Sophie-Anne? Flippant, shallow, a little flighty, yet obviously very powerful. Will her knowledge of the maenads, dismissive though it is, prove to be Bon Temps’ salvation?

We have to wait two weeks for the season finale, airing September 13 on HBO. Share your reactions to tonight’s episode and speculate about what’s coming up in the finale below!

I really don’t know…it was not my favorite episode. Sophie-Anne is too old. She’s supposed to be younger.

Tid bits? I can’t recall seeing anything extravegant…

    • E says:

Aren’t all the vampires older than in the books? I think Pam was supposed to be 19 when she as turned and Eric in his early 20’s. Even Bill I believe is older.

      • Candee says:

You’re right. Although I think that Eric is in a good in between place. Pam should also be younger, 19, like you said. BUT I like who they picked for Pam. But, Bill, I think…was in his early thirties, he had some kids…

Also, I think it just goes to show what a bad choice for Sophie-Anne was. If she was a little better, or even someone else, her age would have been again overlooked. However, Sophie-Anne is supposed to be around 15 or 16. So it’s pretty drastic for how old she looks right now compared to what she should be.

        • Cheryl says:

I agree. I’m a big fan of the books and have accepted the changes and enjoyed them very much. I didn’t enjoy the queens performance at all. In the books she deadly in the show she appears to be a shallow idiot. I hate to be harsh but there is no way someone like that can maintain control as queen. Eric would certainly not respect someone acting like a twit. She might be famous but obviously didnt do any research into her character. Hopefully we won’t see much of her.

    • barbara says:

are u serious? first off Sophie is like 21 years old! look it up! she was in that movie ” Thirteen” and secondly she is gorgeous!! Plus who said she had to b young? Shes the Queen! She could b as old as Mary-ann! Thats just my opinion.

      • Candee says:

        The book. Duh.

WTF are you talking about? No duh she’s super old, but they are as old as when they were turned. And she was turned around 15. Pay attention.

  2. Jillie says:

Candee I agree though I like Wood I think she is to old to play Sophie-Anne and where is her second in command and twin body guards who never leave her side. But I am glad they are setting things up like Eric hinting to Bill about the blood exchange in the first season. Also I am kinda mad that Sam mentioned his shifting to Jason and Andy. I dont think two weeks will pass soon enough to see the last episode.

  3. Erica says:

what the heck did Eric say about Bill to Sophie-Anne in the preview for the Finale?

    • Merrick21 says:

I think he said “i’ll take care of Bill Compton”.

      • Melissa says:

Yes he did say “I’ll take care of Bill Compton”. I replayed the previews for the season finale in slow motion. It almost seems that the Queen attacks Eric. The shot where he’s laying on the floor by himself–his facial expression looks shocked. Where it shows that she is trying to kiss Eric, you look at his neck like he’s trying to pull away as much as possible to prevent it.

    • mariestack says:

I think that when Eric told Sophie Ann he’d take care of Bill Compton, it was regarding Lafayette selling V. I believe that for some reason, the queen has Eric doing this, and doesn’t want Bill to know she’s connected.

  4. Geekygirl says:

Is the egg a “baby” maenad? Or part of the evolution thing that maenads believe Sophie Anne was explaining earlier? Or was Eggs just paying homage in his own way and getting Tara to help out?

  5. RasCue says:

Basically, I think these last two episodes kind of suck…maybe the two worst episodes of the two seasons…it was good to find out the info on how to kill a manead(sp?) but the draggin on of Jason and Andy, this mysterious “egg”, Bill, Eric and Sophie-Anne…just a bunch of filler…like why do you kill Godric in two episodes? someone has to die the last episode but who? and will we be waiting 8 months for the next season?

    • E says:

I agree I just wish this whole Maryann story line would end. They should have written one more episode in Dallas because the FOTS/GODRIC story line was way more interesting than this one.

I can’t believe we have to endure another full episode of Maryann Mayhem. Please, I’m just watching at this point to see my favorite characters.

      • Jayni says:

I completely agree. Goddrick was a SWEET character and the FOTS storyline kicked ass. I really wish Maryanne’s storyline would end…it’s so drawn out. She is really irritating. I have no clue how they are going to normalize the end of this season like they did last season, by catching the serial killer….last season was so much better than this one.

  6. Kissah says:

I was really hoping I would like Sophie-Anne, but after seeing it twice now, it’s time to face it. I don’t like her. The acting seems too artificial and she seems too self conscious. As every other char in the series is a home run, it was hard to see a glaring misstep like this. I was expecting a darker character. The whole episode was too campy imo. Eric saved the day.. again. I would watch him read the phone book in that dress all night and never get bored.

    • sally says:

she was self conscious because they did a bad job of covering those zits on her chin! drove me crazy thru the whole thing.

      • Bjork says:

Me too!!! That is all I could look! Those 2 gargantuan sacks of puss on her chin and the mountain of make-up trying to cover it up.
        ERW was awful!
but Eric… oh my sweet Eric – he was beautiful! I loved the part when he was talking to Bill and he was trying to fix his hair, he looked so adorable!
        Alexander Skarsgard is amazing!

    • Cheryl says:

I so agree. Wood couldn’t have done any research into her character or she’s just a piss poor actress. Sorry to be harsh but its difficult to see a show thats been spot on in its actor/tress choices and see this. It was like she didn’t even want to play the part and rushed through her lines. Really? Seriously? This is the fammous ERW? Maybe I missed something some subtleness. Nah, she seriously sucked. Sorry ERW you gotta go.

  7. elliot says:

Does anyone have any insight on what on earth is going on between Eric and Sophie-Anne in the finales preview??

  8. millicent says:

i’m dying to know what eric and sophie-anne are going on about too! although i was a fan of bill for a while, after reading the books, i’m heavily rooting for eric! i can’t wait to see what they do with that storyline in season 3. also, the whole egg thing has got me stumped, as well. i thought these last two episodes were pretty boring, and the egg completely came out of left field. i really don’t think i can wait two weeks for the finale… i can only dream that they atone for the last two episodes with a nude eric northman (or at least partially… they owe it to me for assaulting my eyes with morbidly obese full-frontals).

    • Cheryl says:

Hallellejah! Can I have a wittness! Never want to see naked obese people again. They shoulda had a warning along the bottom of the screen like the news station did for terror warnings. Code Red full frontal morbidly obese people! Look away if you just ate or are planning to eat in the next 24 hours. Or next scene sponsered by Jenny Craig! Seriously we deserve maybe a 2 hour finally for that. I think that Laf. will probably be the one to die in the last episode. He doesnt have much to do and he was supposed to be the one in the car last season.

  9. elliot says:

In the preview for the finale, if you look closely as Sookie yells out “NO!”, Bill is restraining her. Which makes me ask, Did he really turn on Sam??? Could this be how AB is spinning Bill’s betrayal, in part at least, to Sookie?

    • Lina says:

I don’t think he’ll (Bill) help Mary Ann. I have a feeling him and Sam are plotting something to get close to Mary Ann and unfortunately Sookie just couldn’t be informed.

      • Sallie Kim says:

I agree Bill and Sam are plotting something to get close to Mary Ann, and since Sookie can read Sam’s mind, she will be aware of what they are plotting. They will make Mary Ann think Sam is dead, because it will appear Sookie stabbed him, and when Mary Ann is vulnerable, they will kill her. I guess we will all have to wait and see.

  10. Carri says:

I absolutely LOVE Sophie Anne…she talks like she has been around forever, I know Hadley is changed at some point, but can’t remember, it has been awhile since i’ve read the series. I expected Hadley to be different, but am not disappointed in her character choice, I originally thought the first human on the coach with Sophie-Ann would have been Hadly. They are obviously not going straight from the books, since Bubba is not in any of them. The third book has Sophie Ann in the midst of Eric’s plot to get Bill kidnapped and out of the way for awhile but nobody has mentioned his working on the Vamp list yet.

I LOVE Sophie-Ann’s day room! I like that she knows of Sookie, but I agree some things are being revealed to man characters too soon, IMO. Jason and Andy don’t know about the 2 natured for some time and well we all know that Lafayette as great as he is, making it to season 2 is because he is such a cool character!

    • mariestack says:

In the book, Sophie Ann didn’t know that Bill was kidnapped, she wasn’t in on it. Bill had been working with the queen behind Eric’s back. When Eric was trying to find him with Sookie in book 3, it was stated that the queen didn’t yet know he was missing. It was Lorena who helped Bill get kidnapped and held at Russell Edington’s place. Wonder if they’ll take that route here too? OR…does Eric selling V mean that he and the queen are working behind Bill’s back in a little plot diversion from the book, in an effort to make Bill seem less evil to viewers? Maybe they want him to remain sympathetic and Eric to be more evil?

  11. Carri says:

My one problem with the show right now is please oh please let my viking have his hair back…..ohh la la!!!

  12. Ender says:

I’m also disappointed with Wood, but hope she’ll get better since it sounds like she’ll be around a bit longer. Plus it looks like the lucky girl gets to make out with Alex next week…..I’m a wee bit envious!

But, I digress, I miss Andre and the stalwart twin bodyguards. And was anyone else frustrated by Hadley??!!! In the books she’s a former drug addict and sexual abuse survivor, so the sappy/sweet portrayal on the show is weak. I expected her to be a bit more toughened and less vapid.

I adore the show, but in season 3 we better see some more cracks in Bill & Sookie’s relationship. I’m afraid the Eric/Sookie connection is too big an element from the books to overlook. I can’t believe we have to wait 2 weeks for the finale!

    • marina says:

i agree, hadley supposed to be like dark and wear not so peppy clothes. she has pigtails and looks like dorethy in that episode for crying out loud! and isnt she already supposed to be a vamp when we meet her. well in the book she was a vamp/really killed when we are initroduced to her but still.

and i hope they bring in andre and twin bodyguards they were a great add to the books.

  13. Lina says:

I was slightly disappointed. This show has never disappointed me so I guess a misstep is allowed lol

EWR was ok, I think she’ll grow on us. Her dialog was snappy and fast and I liked that; not too sure what her and Eric are up to…I doubt they were making out as Sophie Ann stated no men for her. I love how she looks at Bill and says “can’t wait to meet Sookie” big hint to the possible plot.

Bill was expected, not too sure if Eric will be. If not, I have a feeling his fangs are showing in anger not desire, but we’ll see. LOVED THE FLYING! I was like yeah! LOL Who else cracked up when Pam and Eric talked about the kids? Pam complaining they would leave a smell for a week lol

Things I was disappointed in? 2.10 left tons of questions barely touched on in 2.11 and instead added more questions. I was the season finale was 2 hours lol

    • E says:

I really wish they would have more of Pam in the series. She’s one of my favorite characters in the books.

As to the Sophie Ann/Eric thing, I’m wondering if they’re setting him up as such a hunk, that even Sophie Ann can be persuaded to change her ways.

  14. NordicWitch says:

Did it look to anyone else at the end of the preview clip that Sookie’s eyes were black (the scene where she says “I’m sorry” in the white dress)? It was way too quick for me to check with just one view…

    • Luna says:

YES, if you slow it down and look really close, her eyes DO turn black. the bad thing is that my son had to point it out to me! and she could’ve been smashing the crap out of that weird egg instead of screaming her head off!

have to say that the highlight of the episode was ERIC as usual. you know the series is not going the way you want when you sit there fast forwarding through the bon temps weirdo sex group. should have more dreams featuring our favorite viking. bill’s perfidy needs to come to light reeeeaaalllyyy soon! can’t wait till they use material from book 4 when eric loses his memory. OMG!

i can’t believe they’re making us wait 2 weeks for the finale. Please let that be the end of maryann and imo eggs too. she’s nauseous-making. the least they could do for making us wait is give us a two hour season finale, but you know that’ll never happen.

  15. Dude says:

I didn’t think her eyes were black. I am also confused about the whole egg thing. Kinda crazy. Hopefully, this will stop people from thinking Lafayette is a supe, as he’s now got the black eyes.

As to the Bill/Sam thing, I can see Bill trying to sacrifice Sam. If you listen to the queen, the only way to kill a maenad is right after the sacrifice when she expects her god to kill her. In Bill’s mind, the only way to protect Sookie is to sacrifice Sam – someone on the show he doesn’t like very much. That’s a small price to pay to keep Sookie protected in his mind. And in Bill’s mind, tha’ts the ONLY thing that matters – Sookie’s well-being.

    • Jayni says:

Ahhh…Sookie….Anna Paquin: she’s a terrible actress. I hope they sacrifice her!! Lol….it would never happen, but that would be fantastic!!

      • Jen says:

I agree I don’t think Anna Paquin is good as everyone claims.

        • jetsetrach says:

She looks like an absolutely horrible kisser. I hate the romantic scenes she does. Her mouth just gapes and she looks like she’s trying to eat all their faces. Awkward and yucky.

  16. Anna says:

I to was a little dissapointed in last nights ep… I did like SA though. I thought she was played perfectly. She was self-indulgent and flighty. That set was amazing! Did anyone else notice how small Bill looked walking out of the palace and how HUGE Eric looked as he walked in? I realize it was intensified by the camera angle, but it was still rather hysterical.

Vampires have fantastic hearing supposedly, so couldn’t SA have overheard Bill’s threat to Eric? Perhaps she already does know about it and is behind it, but Eric just plain doesn’t like threats.

I was hoping to see maybe a tiny bit more of Eric’s softer side with the kids, but it appeared they were on the verge of being eaten! I do like his bad-ass self…. cute when he called them teacup humans and “goodbye tiny humans”.

One question, how did Sam even know Eric? I know he came into Merlottes in season 1, but wasn’t Sam in his office? I don’t recall him coming out or them ever meeting…. I supposed Sookie could have mentioned him, but I never got that impression. My memory can be faulty at times!

    • elica says:

yeah. I agree that it was a little disappointing, it really is dragging and after the nice godric/dallas exciting and emotional events this is just..too little.
eric DID look HUGE compared to Bill and that was really funny! but i have to say that i agree with what people have said that he was fidgeting with his hair a lot not eric-looking but kinda Alex-looking….but hey…he was flying and he needed to fix his hair before going in to see the Queen.
The Queen did good for a first time. she was funny and powerful and all…but Andre? they just have to put Andre in the show. right??
and I agree with you don’t they have supernatural hearing?? or maybe bill and eric were talking vampire quiet and so…:)))
and about the kids….that was cute sort of..and i thought eric was so intrigued by them because they don’t get to see a lot of kids it was kinda weird too because we do know he wants to EAT them after all… but, good night tiny humans was very cute :) )))

      • E says:

I noticed the height differential when they were in the mall and in Dallas. Last season they never had the two stand in a way that you could see how much taller Scarsgard is.

What are the actual heights of Alex Scarsgard and Steven Moyer? I thought Scarsgard was 6′ 4″ in which case, Moyer must be a bit of a shrimp. Either that or they’re now shooting at angles to purposedly make Bill look small next to Eric.

        • Ender says:

I thought it seemed they changed the camera angle after the initial shot to de-emphasize the height difference. After all Moyer is 5′10″ and Alex is 6′4″ so Alex dwarfs Moyer any day of the week. The two probably can’t be too close in the same frame most days.

  17. Merrick21 says:

I really didn’t care for these last 2 episodes at all. The plot is really DRAGGING.
Very surprised that Lafayette went under MaryAnn’s spell so quickly. I thought having Eric’s blood in him might delay that a while longer. Maybe his PTSD already had him partway down the road to madness anyway?? We were all wondering if Laf was having sex dreams about Eric, too, and know we know LOL. That was funny.
We were also wondering if Bill had purposely fed Sookie his blood so fast upon meeting her to make her attracted to him. That appears to be what Eric was saying. True, she was injured and he gave it to her to heal her, but I took what Eric was saying to mean “so what, do you think she won’t remember that eventually and start to question her attraction to you Bill?”

    • TracyLouWho says:

There is more to Bill than meets the eye when it comes to Sookie. If you read the books, you will understand why he did that.

  18. Tiera says:

i expected Sophie to be dark and hard as nails, similar to Godric, but i was surprised she wasn’t as well as everyone else, it seems. i got over this. i realize it would be expected for her to be … sophisticated, but this way – Wood’s fillpant and careless yet powerful (she’s been whispered about since season 1 and can force Bill to stay under her thumb while she plays with him) is unorthodox of a “Queen” and therefore interesting, to me. i did think she was a lil’ bit melodramatic but this is her first time out the gate so those bumps can be smoothed before season 3. she was hilarious too, the line about Bill and Eric bleeping and her watching – i dunno bout you but ive been waiting for someone to mention their sexual chemistry. lol

The Queen is the new Jessica, i remember when everyone hated her when she first came to be… now she’s revered and for good reason. there’s no reason why the Queen can’t be that way eventually.

    - i also have something to add to your list of revelations, Bill had some knowledge of Hadley’s whereabouts, had to, that’s why he was so casual when she dropped her “Sookie’s cousin” spiel. that or he’s been checking in with the Queen since he’s been in Bon Temps. and maybe Bill didn’t want Sookie to go with him because of Hadley and not because the Queen sssoooo wants to meet Sookie…. or both.

    - and Eric does fly like in the books and what Bill eluded to in the graveyard scene last season. he has also eaten kids, big turnoff Viking! but i still like him…

i appreciate the Lafayette/Sookie, Tara/Lettie Mae, Jason/Andy, Sam/Coby/Lisa, Pam/Eric interaction this episode – it was much needed and part of what makes this show so awesome that they have such great actors.

  19. laeli says:

This episode as the one from last week felt like filler to me. I had high expectations about ERW playing the Queen, and I was only disappointed. I really didn’t like her. I didn’t like much of the show. As someone else mentioned, the Dallas and Godric’s story line was much better and it ended too soon.
I didn’t like that Bill didn’t talking with the Queen much about Sookie. Does that means that he wasn’t following her orders when he went back to Bont Temps? I was expectating some sort of revelation there. Althought it never came. But then, what is Hadley doing there?
We found out that Lafayette is also having dreams with Eric, that exchange was good. I loved Eric and Pam, as always. I also liked Bill and Eric conversations. But I think that Bill sometimes forgets that Eric is his sheriff, I mean because of the threat. Those three scenes kind of saved the show for me: Sookie and Lafayette talk; Eric, Pam, Sam and Arlene’s kids, and Bill and Eric exchange. Oh!!!! And I almost forgot: Ginger!!!! I love every scene she is in, even when all she does is scream, I never get tired of her.
I’m afraid of the next episode and what may happen. Particularly, if they are making Eric go after Sookie at Sophie-Anne request. Then I will be royaly mad.
I have so much questions from the preview. I think the preview for the next episode was better that last night episode.

    • laeli says:

Ops.. And I forgot, finally they touched the fact that Bill fed Sookie with his blood very little time after meeting her and how convenient was for him. So Eric and Bill are at the same level regarding Sookie? Was she attracted to Bill because of the blood? Or is it real love? It can go either way now.

      • Jen says:

And don’t forget the dreams Sookie had of Bill…similiar to the ones she’s had about Eric.

        • Ender says:

Actually, Sookie’s dreams about Eric seem much more intimate than those with Bill. When she dreamed about Bill it was just about sex, but I wonder if the difference is just that she’s now had sex so she’s wondering more about ‘real’ intimacy.

      • janice Gilliam says:

My recall is that it was the second time they met, not the first. The first time, Sookie saved Bill’s life after the “rats” staked him out. The second time they met, Bill saved Sookie from the “rats”s

    • Sarah says:

They have already aknowledged that the Queen made Bill go to Bon Temp for Sookie in the Episode when Bill and Eric talk at Fangtasia–Eric asked Bill if he is in love with Sookie–Bill’s response was something like “She needs to be protected” And Eric said “Sounds like an edict but I would know about that…”

      • laeli says:

Yes I remember that. But I kind of expected it to be spelled out from Sophie Anne’s mouth. I won’t be sure that they are going to follow that story line until I hear it aloud. And not just a hint like it was in that episode. I think it was also a hint when in the third episode of this season, Dr. Ludwing was treating Sookie and Bill said “She can not die”. That sounded to me as if Sookie meant something to someone more important than Bill. And that he was kind of in charge of her well being. So if they don’t follow it as in the books those lines won’t make much sense. So I’m crossing my fingers, I think you never know with Alan Ball. So far Bill and Eric are very different from the books.

        • Sarah says:

I agree with you…Bill actually has replaced Eric several times in his good actions towards Sookie in the books. For the most part they keep making Eric out to be over the top creepy and dangerous except in the Sookies dreams–I hated in this episode that they eluded to him wanting to eat the kids. I feel like at his age he would never even contemplate it and AB makes Bill so heroic–itreally bothers me. I am not sure we will ever see Bill’s ugly side the way we do in the book series.

      • elica says:

yeah. and when bill said sth like “she needs to eb protected” and he started saying something else something like if sth were to happen to sookie “she will be…” or something like that like he was saying if I fail to protect sookie the queen will have my ass! :) ) and remember that stare that eric gave him then…but i still want them to say that out loud and finally get bill looking not like such a good guy anymore. come on!

  20. dragonlady76 says:

I really disliked this episode, I feel let down by the writting and directing.

  21. Sarah says:

I agree with everyone who thought the last two episodes were pretty weak. I don’t think Eric was ordered to go after Sookie on the Queen’s request–I think Bill was. They have already set that up when Bill shows up and the Queen knows Sookie…Right? From the preview it doesn’t look like Eric comes to the rescue at the end…that would be a BIG, HUGE disappointment if Bill alone saves the day…UGH. As for Sophie Ann–I think she is a tad bit old but I think she looks perfect. She is gorgeous and playful with power layered underneath it. I think everyone is being too hard–I thought she was great. As an Eric fan, I am sad to say that I don’t think a “real” Sookie/Eric moment will occur this season…in the books they have already been intimate twice…Maybe next year.

  22. AJ says:

Well I loved it! Only disappointed that it came to an end. I’ve started reading the books just recently, and I appreciate the differences in between them and the show. If they were exactly the same, I wouldn’t be on the edge of my seat.

Yes, I would like to see the Maryanne storyline get wrapped up, but only because she’s evil and I want to see her get what’s coming to her. I got into this show for the vampires, and miss them being the main focus of the show, but what other show has a Maenad? This is the first time I’ve ever seen one on a tv show, and since I have very little knowledge of Greek mythology, I don’t know what’s coming next, and I enjoy that!

On Sophie Anne, I don’t love or hate her, I’ll wait to make judgement until I know what she’s up to. I’ve only started liking Eric after the past couple episodes, and reading the books.

AND of course What’s with THE EGG!?!?!?!?!

    I don’t know if I can wait 2 weeks!

  23. Deb Fransen says:

I think the Queen is playing both Bill and Eric. But it is so obvious that
Bill is in love with Sookie no matter what his first intentions were, and
Eric just wants to use Sookie’s abilities and make her a vamp ( Per the Queen).
And Alan Ball is still not making Eric look like the good guy…..
I am beginning to wonder if that will ever happen….

    • heather says:

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I really want to see more “book Eric” and I’m beginning to worry that we won’t. I also agree that Bill is truly in love with Sookie, regardless of his initial intentions. (ugh) However, I do think it’s possible he was sent to seduce Sookie by the Queen and that he was late on purpose the night that Sookie was beaten to a pulp by the Rattray’s. That would have been the perfect excuse for him to give her his blood. Regardless of how he feels now, that would be a pretty big betrayal and one that Sookie wouldn’t easily forgive. Fingers crossed.
The Queen just seemed to know too much about Sookie and Bill’s relationship. I also thought it was interesting that Bill told Hadley it would be a bad idea for her to get in touch with Sookie, etc.

  24. Sarah says:

I think you are right Deb–Not sure if we will ever see the likable side of Eric. The only time I have seen it (other than dreams) towards Sookie is when he asked “Are you sure you are alright?” when they were at FOTS. One line out of two seasons–disappointing.

  25. Jennifer White says:

I am thinking that Sam will not have to be sacrificed to kill Maryann although the only way to kill her is while she is devouring her sacrifice. I think Eric in his attemps to save Bon Temps, to win Sookie over, will bring one of his shifters or weres that need to be punished for some misdeed in this area against a vampire. He could carry out a punishment and allow Maryann to use them as a sacrifice and kill her when she sacrifices him.

They better kill Maryann of in the finalle the thought of her still being around next season makes me ill.

By the way “Bontemp” means “Good Times” in Cajun. Pretty ironic since that describes every Sunday night for me!

  26. Michelle Boykin says:

Do you remember the episode from Taras Bday party. Maryanne went out to the woods and began to shift. It looked as though she was buring something… I thought it was eggs then. And since “Eggs” is his name I know he is going to like do something freaky with this egg just watch.

  27. AdorableRose says:

In regards to SA looking a tad older: Well, it’s not like they can actually get a 16 year old girl to play the role of SA. I think they did the best they could in getting an actress who looks pretty young and acts all smarmy. I thought she did a decent job in the role, exuding a more silent power as opposed to being all broody and haughty, which is how I always viewed SA in the books.

I honestly think Bill forces Sam to Maryann to be the sacrifice. He’s more than willing to do anything to keep Sookie safe; why not bring Maryann the sacrifice she originally wanted so she’ll leave Sookie alone? Also, I think what Eric kind of alluded to in that exchange about Bill giving Sookie his blood was that Bill could have prevented the attack if he had been there on time. Or he was there he just waited until she was properly injured before doing anything. Put in that context, it definitely makes Bill seem like a manipulative ass, which in a way he very much is.

As for Eric commenting on the tastiness of children… Babbies R DELISHUS! We OM NOM DEM! Kidding! But seriously, he’s a vampire. Of course vampires are going to feed on children, they’re humans too. Just because they’re small doesn’t mean a damn thing. They are still blood banks. Just teacup size.

I think we’ll see the good side of Eric next season, since it was mentioned that season 3 will explore the Eric/Sookie relationship.

    • Cheryl says:

Actually they probably could get a 15/16 yr or someone who doesn’t look thirty. You do remember Interview with the Vampire don’t you? That girl did a hell of a job. Yes I do expect a lot more from ERW and make no appologies for it.

  28. George (UCLA1) says:

    *

ERW’s performance as the queen was labored and unnatural, almost like that of someone in a stage musical. I don’t know how she was directed but I thought it was bad.

My view of Pam is changed from the interaction in this episode. How can she and Eric (and even Lorena) exist in the great revelation while existing opposite of what Godric wanted. I really want Pam to be put in her place, and hope Sookie or a human does it next season.

How long can they drag the Maryanne thing on, and who is the other major character that will be gone from the show.

Overall very disappointed in where this show is going compared to my interest in Carnivale at the same point.

  29. Candee says:

I never even thought they would make Eric betray Sookie instead of Bill…

Oh my gosh, I hope they don’t. They all ready made Bill kill Longshadow instead of Eric. If they do, I will definitely stop watching…

  30. Travis says:

I just finished reading the last book. Certainly I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but my own opinion has been that of enjoyment between Bill and Sookie. Granted, I only started reading the books about midway through this season, thus my opinion of the entire Bill/Sookie dynamic was tainted, but in hindsight, I think that they kind of used Bill as a gentler kind of vampire / human relationship appetizer. As the show progresses, perhaps we will get to the “meat.”
As for SA, i was thoroughly dissappointed with REW’s casting and acting in this episode. Her delivery seemed unnatural and forced, nothing at all like a vampire that has lived longer than Eric should be, or even like a good actress. Her entire demeanor was just a let down, and she didn’t seem very powerful. Not that those who are powerful necessarily seem powerful, but our other yard sticks on the show (Maryann, Eric, Godric) seemed nothing like her.
The kids? Well, shit, think of them like veal, right ? :) After reading the books, i would have a hard time believing that Eric would actually eat them, so maybe he was just posturing for Pam, Sam and appearance’s sake…but who knows :p
I understand that the creators have to take a lot of liberty to fill up the space when adapting the books to a 12 episode season. The books are actually pretty short, and thus one of many reasons that the series is not as literal as some of us may believe it should be. Thus far, I have enjoyed most of the adaptations, but that doesn’t mean i wouldn’t have a few suggestions if i was ever considered as a consultant…because Harris is too busy working on the last of course!
    Take care guys

  31. Jen says:

I want more of Eric, more of Pam…. can we see more of them? They are brilliant gems in the mass of characters struggling to surface for air in this confused swamp of storylines….

And I want to see Bill squirm when his true intentions are ‘un-earthed’ (pun intended!

    • Ender says:

Totally agree…Pam is not getting enough air time this season and to me the actress totally nails her role. Plus she adds a great bit of humor.

  32. True Blood Fan says:

I really hope Eric is not in cahoots with Queen Sophie Ann!!!!!! (sharpens pitchfork)

  33. James says:

I really think the show reached the top of the hill with Godric. It just is NOT the same. That character was profound, but this stuff is kinda boring.

The ONLY thing left that might make it interesting is if a new type of Sup gets introduced to put an end to Maryann or something.

Who knows, maybe Season 3 will be cool, but this Maenad story should have been the first story to end this season, not the 2nd (1st being Dallas).

  34. Brenda Bravo says:

Get rid of the Maenad, it was a minor character in the books and why they decided to go into this Night of the Living Dead , disgusting horror plot is beyond me. Kill her already! And I agree the last two episodes were weak .

  35. Katharine says:

I thought Evan Rachel Wood was fine. They seem to be directing her to play Sophie Anne in the way that Louis XVI is often portrayed: frivolous, self-indulgent, but tremendously focused and potentially cruel when something catches his eye.

I love Michelle Forbes, I wish they had something else to do with her on the show, but I’m ready to see her character go. I’m tired of that plot line.

That was interesting about the exorcism. I had honestly forgotten about that.

I did enjoy the character time with Tara’s mother and with Lafayette.

I hope Sam makes it through.

I didn’t find Cousin Hadley interesting at all. Yawn. Her character just screams Plot Device. I hope she won’t be a main aspect of S3.

More Pam, please. We’ve hardly seen her this season.

  36. Cara Elizabeth says:

I must be the the only person alive (or dead) who doesn’t think Eric is great stuff. He annoys me, especially since he has not absorbed any of the worderful, intricate and profound thoughts of his maker, Godric. Eric should be ashamed of himself. I read the books and hated the discentigration of Sookie and Bill’s relationship. Forgive, work it out. I must be alone in this. I didn’t like any of Sookie’s other boyfriends. The weres and shifters drove me crazy. I hope the series does not follow the books in that manner. I love Jason and Andy, but I’m ready for the Mary Ann story line to end. I wish Godric would re-incarnate! Loved his character and the tattoos were also very unique.

    • Vikki says:

I am right there with you on all accounts! Could not have said it better my self. Can’t tolerate Eric and his sick obession w/Sookie. I don’t think he really wants her, he just is jealous of Bill and just wants to take her away from him.

    • key note says:

I so agree with you o n this. I read the books and I thought it was kind of not right for her to even have a relationship with Eric, it always seem like she was getting back at bill by doing so.

The way he continues to treat bill in the books just because he can gets totally on my nerves and not to say Bill didn’t make some mistakes on his treatment of sookie but her too. They both were knew to love bill (bill as a vamp) . I think eric is a great character to have in the stories as conflict but to me sookie should have totally went another way. imop.

      • lwinhmr says:

I agree too – Eric is just evil and needs to leave Bill and Sookie alone. Even though SA told Bill to persue Sookie, I believe he really does love her now. I also agree that the MaryAnn storyline is getting really old and they need to end it. Boring!!

  37. DerWood says:

When my partner and I watched the show the other night we were floored. I have not had the opportunity to read the books, but this show is getting out of control. I know it’s fantasy and anything can happen, but there has to be some normalcy that goes with it. An egg? What the heck is going on with that? And honestly… Jason and Andy look like idiot rednecks (Jason always annoys me anyway – he really is a dumbass) running around with guns and ammo like they’re Rambo. Did Sookie and Lafayette really think they could just shoot a supernatural in the head?

It’s all just becoming a little too much. I think AB needs to clean things up a bit or he’s going to lose viewers to the books. All of your comments about the books sound much better than this very ’silly’ drawn out story of Maryann. The show has had many more interesting plots than her and her sex-crazed zombies.

The Godrick issue?! Yes… why on Earth would he die. He could have brought a lot of interesting things to the show. He was the ‘gentle monster’ that everyone wants to be their best friend.

AB needs to smooth things out a bit in his finale, otherwise I think some of us might find better things to do.

Just my two cents. Oh and Eric’s character could be put in more… I definately agree. Lot’s of things that could go on there. And, if he’s so in love with Sookie, why didn’t he rush to Bon Temps when Sam told him about Maryann. Wouldn’t he want to make sure she’s safe? I don’t know… lots of things just don’t seem to add up.

How did Tara know she ate a heart? I wondered if she saw it when Sookie snapped her out of her zombie state, but nothing eluded to her knowing about that. Whatever!

We’ll see what happens in the finale. Here’s hoping fellow fans.

    • Candee says:

You should really, really read the books.

I really hate that they made Godric out to be the good guy. He’s not supposed to be. He was a nasty, icky, bad guy.

      • Cheryl says:

Yes in fact people go on about Erics comment on the kiddies but Godric is (in the book) a pedifile and child killer. Rape the boy children first then kill them. And if AB wanted to change the Godric character instead of just dying he could have used his influance to change things. Sad and weak. In the books Eric knows that Sookie is not all human and is attracted to her bravery and loyalty. All things the vikings admired. They also make jokes instead of showing any depth of feeling. IMO it makes perfect sense. Also IMO for those who just love Bill, unless AB completely goes off the edge Bill is a total Ass and didn’t realise he cared about sookie until it was too late. Who can blame her really. At least Eric doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not.

  38. Freyja says:

My most shocking revelation was that Bill gave Sookie his blood early on, and shortly thereafter came her sex dreams about him. Now, I knew this of course, but didn’t realize the significance.

    Hm….

  39. Deb Fransen says:

Did you guys pick up on the Queen telling Bill that the maenad will be most vulnerable when she gives herself to the “BullHorny” God, and that is when she can be killed? I think MaryAnn will die…Hopefully that’s the character that will die…. And Sookie is crying on the previews because maybe someone else gets hurt ……

  40. Julie says:

Not sure where to post this, but I didn’t see it anywhere else. It appears that True Blood got some Spike TV Scream award nominations. You can go and vote. I don’t have the link, but it’s not difficult to find.

  41. kate says:

Are there any other book lovers out there who want to say a big f*ck you to AB for what he’s done to sookie’s character
I’m not at all fanatical about plot differences between the books and the show, in fact I like them. They are 100% necessary as the books are first person, so the writers need to expand the plots and show stuff Sookie never sees. Plus it means I know the general shape of the plot but not the specifics, which makes the whole thing more fun.
But could we at least keep the main character recognizable? One of the major reasons I loved the books is that Sookie is a strong independent woman. She’s not perfect, but she is resilient, intelligent and tough. As Gran says “Any woman worth her salt can do anything she has to.” That’s sookie. But instead of that complex, flawed, interesting and awesome character we get a gutted shell who serves only to be rescued and fought over by hunky men. I have no objection to the hunky men, but could she please be a little stronger and smarter.
The book Sookie didn’t need Bill and Sam to save her from Rene, he broke her collar bone and bashed in her face and she would not go down, she kept fighting and saved HERSELF.
The book Sookie fought like hell when Gabe tried to rape her, she kicked and bit and slammed her hands over his ears, all the while screaming at him about being a pathetic rapist.
The book Sookie would NEVER walk into Maryann’s lair without calling in back up of some kind.
This episode just really crystallized my anger about her character that’s been growing for a while. I really like the show, it’s fun and diverting and great entertainment, but come on guys, is it so f*cking impossible to have a strong independent beautiful female character? We’re not all damsels in distress, and not all men want one.

    • Sasha says:

Umm, Sookie DID save herself from Rene by nearly chopping his head off with a shovel. She didn’t need Bill or Sam or anybody to save her she did it herself. And Sookie DID have back up when she went in to Maryann’s house–Lafayette, with a big ass gun. How was she to know Maryann would turn him?

  42. TracyLouWho says:

People! This series is BASED on the Charlaine Harris novels! If it was exactly like the book, why would people watch it. I LOVE the books and I LOVE this show! You can make slight comparisons, but it is its own creature.

What I got from Sunday’s episode is that Maryann will destroy herself if she goes through with the ceremony to bring the horned God back (between what Sophie-Anne and Maxine’s comments). I do wonder if AB is going down a different path with Hoyt and Andy Bellefleur. How could they not be enthralled by Maryann’s magic too without having some kind of “supe” power in them.

The egg kind of through me. At first, I just thought well an egg is an egg, but then again there are many references to eggs in mythology so perhaps there is a back story there?

    I can’t wait 2 weeks! :)

    • Jen says:

Perhaps the reason that Hoyt and Andy aren’t overcome by Maryanne’s power is because they haven’t been in her presence…

  43. Kay says:

I have not read the books, but I’ve read my comments on the differences. I thought ERW sucked. Kristen Dunst played a vamp at age 11. On Weeds, her 14 yr old lost his virginity in group sex, got an STD, and killed someone so having a 16yr old with a potty mouth is no big deal to me. ERW did not use an accent or acted in the slightest manner as someone with Old world manners. She did not have the exaggerated speech and mannerisms a Queen & ancient should have. She acted horribly and needed a dialect and manners coach to prepare. Not doing so was insulting to me. Kristen Dunst at 11 kicked her butt or even Kristina Riche (sp?) in Sleepy Hallow did MUCH better. In fact, Kristina Riche would have kicked butt and she looks young.

I think the egg is an ostrich or emu egg for that “Perfect recipe” to bring the God who never comes. She’s always looking for that special recipe that will work.

I slowed the dvr and Sookies eyes do not turn black there is white in the corners no black contacts just her brown eyes.

Before the last 2 episodes i liked the Maryann character. i think they’ve dropped the ball and went too far. They should have had her leave with Sam’s $$ or become fascinated with Sookie instead or bearing a grudge with the vamps. This wedding gown wanting to die crap is bad.

I think they are going to fake Sam’s death and he’ll turn into a were looking character to resemble Bacchus since he knows were’s. If we are lucky maybe Bill will ask a were for help.

I think Andy or Eggs will be killed and I really like Eggs (I feel for him being in a trance all the time). it might even be Jessica since she’s not in the books or Layfette. i hope they keep everyone.

    • NordicWitch says:

A thought on the egg…when Maryann looks at Karl lying dead on the ground she says “you really didn’t evolve much in this lifetime”…could the egg be Karl’s next lifetime?? Stranger things have happened…

  44. mma1215 says:

I wonder if Claudine (Sookie’s fairy Godmother) will save the day in the season finale?

  45. Sonita says:

I was also very disappointed with ERW’s performace. I was looking forward to her debut and was so confident that she was going to be perfect. I’m not sure whoes to blame…she’s an awesome actress, but who directed her to act that way?! I haven’t had any issues on how they’ve adapted the books, but they changed Sophie Anna’s character way too much…she’s way to ditzy, she should be a bit scary! I am hoping that perhaps she put a front up for Bill and her true nature will shine in the finale.
The show was definitely a filler….there’s been a few them through out the season. I’m sad the end is near, but I also can’t wait!

    • Kay says:

I only hope that Sophie Anna was written better in the books because the TV Queen sucks. Why is she not speaking in French once in a while, it’s Louisiana they speak french Cajun? If there is a place in the USA that still have some french language left over it’s Louisiana.

  46. Kay says:

How does Bill get everywhere so fast? Do all Vamps fly? Does Bill fly or can he run 200 miles/hr or something?

  47. JenG says:

Yeah, I think everyone can agree its a wtf moment when they brought out the egg, hopefully its just for soup, like someone offered an osterich egg and they are making an omlette for the god that comes.
Also I think that Bill is going to force Sam into offering himself, if yall recall, he hates Sam, remember the way he went after Sookie in his absence? BUT! I think that Eric will come in and save Sam, somehow, hoping to keep Sams favor in his pocket. But even if he didnt, would losing Sam be that bad? It would be a great death scene, a nice dramatic ender for the show, and I think it would put that wedge in Sookie and Bills relationship that we will miss by not having the special project from the queen for Bill, (for those who know the books and know what I’m talking about)
Also, I like how in the first season they had the big bad resolved about 2/3s through the episode and ended on a cliffhanger for the next season. I hope they do that again and not just end with the end of the ceremony end.

  48. Cheryl says:

I think most of this season was a drag. I don’t feel they needed the filler. There are how many books to this story? If they wanted to keep it at a good pace like last season they could have joined books 2 and 3 and so on. But if they are going to do a book a season there was certainly way more interesting things than Maryann and the the sun church crap. I feel there should have been more on Pam simply because her character is really rich. Maybe because the actress got maried recently she couldn’t fullfill what was needed. Shoot I remembered when Buffy was canceled i was still making sure to be home for the reruns. Not with this season of true blood. Thats for sure and I mean this as no insult to the actors involved. AB dropped the his ball big time. Frayed scattered storylines. Hopefully it will all pan out in the end and I’m just a big ass missing the whole picture. I don’t think there would be any other time I would hope i was the ass be wrong about the where this show is going. Please let me be an ass!

  49. ulfheddin says:

I know everyone is hating on Sophie Ann’s actress/character, but I can’t help but wonder if this is intentional (trying to be optimistic here!)… Perhaps the writers are trying for this kind of reaction to her character and we’re in for a really big (DARK, SCARY) surprise. Maybe… Please?? :D I doubt they’ll leave her as this flaky twit for long – so far, the plotline/writing has been top notch and I’m sure we’ll get some sort of insight as to how Sophie Ann is a badass, powerful queen. Then again, IMO, she wasn’t that frightening in the books; Andre gave me the heebie jeebies more than she did. I imagine tomorrow’s finale will clear a lot of things up… And leave us all hanging once again…
