True Blood Halloween: Lafayette Costume

The next in our serious of True Blood-inspired costume ideas for Halloween is the delicious Lafayette Reynolds. Now here’s a man who isn’t afraid to accessorize! We’ve got costume breakdowns and links to online sources for items below, but chances are you’ll be able to find a lot of these pieces at your local thrift store, or possibly your own closet.

Break out the scissors and your favorite sweatshirt because Lafayette never met a Flashdance style he didn’t like! The off-the-shoulder styling of Lafayette’s navy blue sweatshirt is easy to replicate. Lay the sweatshirt out flat, take a marker and draw the cut lines for a modified tank top, and chop away. Alternately, there’s the colorful printed t-shirt, which it looks like Lafayette has altered again to show off his biceps. It doesn’t really matter what’s on the shirt, as long as it’s colorful and close-fitting. Hack off the sleeves to show off your bulging biceps. For the rest of the costume, add baggy jeans, then accessorize. Choose a glitzy, colorful belt to keep those baggy jeans up; add some bracelets and a monogram necklace; and top it off with a head scarf (see video below).

Clothes aren’t the only thing that make the man, in this case. If you’re going to dress up as Lafayette, you’ll need to apply some makeup. Lafayette favors jewel tones, especially purples and golds for his eye shadow and deep red gloss for his lips. Don’t apply too heavily, though, the goal is to subtly enhance not overwhelm. At least with your makeup; the dance moves are definitely meant to overwhelm.
