Recap 312 True Blood “Evil is Going On”
Bill: “Sookie, stay here. Pam will protect you.”
Sookie: “Feel safer protecting myself. Since I now know I’m basically vampire crack.”
After being yanked here, taken there, bitten and used, Sookie finally turned the tables. This was Sookie’s episode, and it was about time. I loved seeing her literally take her life back.
I’ve been waiting for Sookie to show Bill the door, and she finally, finally did. We saw Bill’s evil side in all its glory. Not only did he doublecross Eric and encase him in cement and (horrors) take out a hit on Pam, Sookie found out that the incident with the Rattrays in the pilot episode was a complete set-up. Bad Bill the Queen’s procurer, no biscuit. In the final scene, I thought Sookie was running to Bill to forgive him… and she wasn’t! Hallelujah brother, it’s over!
I was freaked by the cement when it was just Russell, so when Bill turned on Eric and encased him in cement, too, I was beside myself. Fortunately, they didn’t cliffhanger us with that, because Eric has someone who loves him (even if she complains about cement in her hair). Of course, no one loves Russell now that Talbot is down the garbage disposal. Can I hope that Russell’s wolves indeed came to his rescue?
Actually, the whole episode was worth watching just for that scene with Sookie and Russell and the garbage disposal. I love Russell. He’s such a hoot, even covered with black flakes and goo. I’m happy they decided not to kill Russell off. He’s too good a character to throw away.
As Bill finally showed his slimy side, Eric again got to shine. This has been a great season for Eric, nearly everything I could have asked for. I’m glad he didn’t decide to forgive Russell, even for Godric’s sake, because it would have been out of character. And I’m holding out hope that Sookie will see Eric differently now. Bill has been lying like mad, while Eric has continued to tell her the truth — and she did save his life in the opening scene. I completely believe that he would never have given her to Russell.
In other news, I noticed a galloping wave of welcome maturity taking over some of the characters. Tara forgave her horrible mother and wished her well before cutting off her glorious hair and leaving town. Jason manned up in a big way, and took responsibility for the people of Hotshot. I was actually proud of Jason; he made Andy look bad. Crystal sacrificed herself for her people, too. Maybe she’s not a total loss.
And Hoyt told off his mother and Summer during their “intervention”, and got a house for himself and Jessica, his new vampire fiancee. Those crazy kids might just make it work. Except for that evil doll lying like an omen on the floor, and Maxine out buying a vampire-killing rifle, of course.
It’s too bad about Jesus, who apparently seduced Lafayette in order to feed him V and turn on his power. That explains why Lafayette saw Jesus with that monster mask on; Lafayette is now seeing what people want to hide. I’m sad about Jesus. No one lives happily every after on this show.
Way too many cliffhangers for season four. Did Sam shoot Tommy? I certainly hope not. A lot of what Sam did this season was understandable under the circumstances, but not that. Will Bill take out the Queen? I think he will. I’ll say again that I’m dreading the Arlene baby plot because I hate evil baby plots. At least the vicious and completely unreasonable Debbie Pelt is still out there, and that’s fun waiting to happen.
And apparently, Alcide may have a chance with Sookie now. That is, if Sookie ever returns from fairy cemetery land.
Bits and pieces:
– There are 2,712 people, shifters and vamps who live in Bon Temps. Does that include poor little Hotshot?
– The VRA may not pass, but I could watch Nan Flanagan and Steve Newlin debate on television until the cows come home. The “vampire agenda.” Wonderful.
– Sookie’s fairy encounter in the opening scene reminded me of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Maybe fairies are aliens, after all.
– Lettie Mae was being naughty with her married minister and thinks he’s going to divorce his wife and make her respectable. Lettie Mae is clueless. It was great to see Tara finally disconnect and walk away.
– “Uncle Daddy Calvin” just bit the dust. Kind of went well with the rampant character assassination, since he’s nothing like the likeable character in the books, and I won’t get more spoilery than that.
– Terry’s armadillo has a name now. Felix. Felix the armadillo.
– Loved the Queen’s widows weeds. Very fifties crossed with Morticia Adams.
Quotes:
Sookie: “Go crawl back in your holes, you creepy cold freaks.”
Andy: “So we just let ‘em sell drugs?”
Jason: “Well, if we stop ‘em, somebody else just gonna start up, right?”
Andy: “You just rationalized away all need for law enforcement.”
Sookie: “Don’t be such a good guy right now.”
Alcide: “I can’t help it if I’m a good guy.”
Russell: “Yeah. Every full moon, he turns into a wolf and kills and eats his prey.”
Alcide: “Rabbits and squirrels. Not people.”
Russell: “Details.”
Lafayette: “You’re a witch… who’s a nurse… who’s a dude.”
Russell: “You will regret this!”
Eric: “Maybe. Right now, it feels fucking good.”
This was a good season, my favorite so far. Nearly all of it worked. And unlike the first two season finales, this one felt a lot more like a finale instead of like set-up for the next season. Thank you, Alan Ball.
Three out of four garbage disposals,

I don’t see how you get than Jesus seduced Lafayette for the V. I didn’t see evidence of that on the show. Did I miss something?
Jesus admitted he was a witch and that he saw the visions, too, while he was in training and that Lafayette would probably get over seeing the visions like he did. That told me that Jesus knew what would happen when he and Lafayette took the V together. Maybe I’m assuming too much.
Lafayette did V in season 1 with Jason, has mentioned doing it other times during the series, and got quite a large dose directly from Eric in season 2. There must have been something else to trigger the visions other then the V since it never happened before.
Maybe he needed a guide to help him or tagging along with Jesus on his visions triggered him.
Also Jesus blowing Lafayette off the first time it is mentioned he deals V, having his mother escape to bring them together, enspelling Sam into beating a person almost to death so V is needed to save him, then acting fascinated by the V is quite a bit of manipulation just to get Lafayette to do some V, which he been using before anyway if not regularly.
Also Jesus seemed quite surprised by the fact they got a spirit-vision without his usual fasting/prayer/etc rituals.
I was actually quite disappointed in the finale, myself. I know it felt more like a “finale” than a setup for next season, but to me, the addicting quality of this show is that it leaves you wanting more, every time. Last night, when the credits rolled, I didn’t have that feeling of “AH! CAN’T WAIT TILL JUNE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!” But maybe that’s just me.
Also, I’m VERY disappointed and confused about Sam’s storyline. He seemed to have so much love and compassion for Tommy…but little patience for him. Then he just turns his back on him the moment things get a little tough? The boy can’t even read! It just bothers me…
I was totally disappointed in this entire season. I think that Alan Ball went off the reservation.
I was bored to tears with the finale and unlike seasons in the past, I’m not counting the seconds until the next season returns.
Agree with Sophie-anne and Jenn. Big disappointment. Not a hard guess as to where Sookie goes. Besides the scenes with Eric, Russell or Pam, it was very boring IMO. There are too many different storylines and so off the themes in the book. Not counting the minutes until next summer like years past.
I agree with you, this was not the most exciting finale. In fact, I sort of found the whole thing lame, minus a few exceptions. The whole Sookie, Bill and Eric aspect was awesome and I really hope this is the move away from Bill, whose character annoys me beyond belief and the move towards her trusting and eventually perhaps being with Eric. Everything else was BLAH. Tara bores me to tears, the whole Sam acting evil…really? after sacrificing himself last season to this? lame. The whole Jason and Hotshots area…again, lame. Crystal is a terrible and annoying actress.
I do like the Hoyt and Jessica bit. I wish very much that we didn’t have to wait a year before the new season though, this whole 9 -10 months in between the next 12 epsiodes is far too much time.
Crystal-Annie, I’ve thought Sam was acting way out of character and it has really bothered me too. But you just hit the nail on the head, so to speak, when you noted that he was willing to sacrifice himself for everyone last year. How does a man we’ve grown to love, hardworking, kind Sam, suddenly turn into a cold, calculating killer. I can’t believe some of the choices they make.
I liked the finale. I love the bad side of Bill
He was trying way too hard to be more human in the last 2 seasons…great to know he’s not such a nice guy afterall…yeah! Honestly, given the opportunity why wouldn’t he try to get rid of Eric. I’m glad they didn’t kill Russell off, he is awesome!!!
I loved the finale. I thought it was great. And i kinda like how there was no main cliffhanger, but a bunch of little ones. I dont like to be left wondering for nine months.
It was kinda dirty what he did though. They were about to shake and basically call truce, then BAM. Kind of cowardly.
I disagree on what you said about Bill being cowardedly. He just pretended that he was calling a truce with Eric. Actually, Bill finally showed some balls in this last episode. Eric, on the other hand, was acting like a spoiled little child. “ohhhh, you tried to kill me? So, now I’m going to tell your girlfriend on you. Ohhhhhhh, I’m soooo bad.” *rolls eyes.*
LOL okay. Bill had plenty of opportunites to tell Sookie, and its his own fault he couldnt even make sure Eric was done for. Eric was reluctant to tell Sookie, as we saw in episode 10 after they kissed. But after Bill tried to kill him, well of course he’s going to tell her. Would you have rather Eric arrested him or killed him? Because as Sheriff im sure he was in his capacity to do so. Meanwhile, Sookie would have never found out the truth.
Eric pretended to be in awe of the king instead of proclaiming his true intentions. Eric gave Talbot a helluva handshake before staking him – in his BACK. The ultimate in cowardice, n’est-ce pas? Being sneaky and devious is one of the things Eric fans LOVE about Eric, how can you not admire it in Bill? It’s about effing time Bill did something back to Eric. What Bill did wrong was leaving the area instead of keeping the site secure. Bill, bill – so impulsive!
We’ve already seen Bill do plenty bad to Eric before that. He told Russell he was selling V, he told Sookie Eric was after her blood more than once (which we all know isnt true). He told Sookie that dossier was because of Eric, when we all now know it was because of the Queen’s mission. He has turned Sookie against him at every possible turn.
Eric pretended to be in awe of the king because he is smart and knew he couldnt beat him physically, whereas Bill totally acted on impulse when he tried to kill RE. Eric knew he would have to outwit him mentally, not physically.
When Eric is dragging Russell out of Fangtasia and he tells Alcide and Bill ” As soon as you are done face F***ing meet me out side” Awesome line!
Absolutely. Great line!!!
That was the best line besides what he said about Bill silencing him so Sookie would never know the truth and Bill was protecting himself not her.
I agree, that line was perfect for Eric.
I love this show but the way this season went down was very upsetting. They totally made Sookie a freak. I was happy that they showed that bill has been lying since the start. Didn’t like what they did with the werewolf’s… or Russel. Just made this season a cluster of confusion for seasons to come. I do hope that Sookie sees what a decent guy Eric really is. And would love more Pam please. The fairy thing is a little out of control for me. I really hope Alan Ball doesn’t ruin this series cause i love the books.
Sookie was not a freak. She may have had a little evil laugh while she was disposing of Talbot down the garbage disposal. But, why not? Russel was planning on keeping Sookie as his pet to drink her blood so he could be out in the sun light. I would straight up be laughing too, if I though Russel believed he could be Talbot back! Sookie was finally able to show her strength in the finale, and that she was tired of being walked all over. I don’t think AB really knows where the fairy thing is going, but he is not too far off track from Charline Harris initial plot (as you have read the books). The books really never went into much depth about Fairy world. Who knows, maybe CH will branch her remaining novels off of AB storyline, which would turn out great!
Just a thought.
I’m a huge fan of the show and was looking forward the shows particular style finale of the past 2 seasons. Conclude the story lines within the first 1/2 hour then start season 4 in the final 1/2 hour. The season 3 finale felt more like a typical episode ending. To many questions left unanswered. I dont feel like there was any real “Finality” to the season. Am I the only one? What is Lafayette? a Witch? Shaman? Witch Doctor? What is/was Jesus intentions? Love? did he find out something from Lafayettes mother? So Bill is supposed to be a bad guy … at first, but now hes trying to kill the queen to protect Sookie? So is he a good guy now?
I’m not comfortable with Sams storyline now, although I doubt he kills Tommy. Hopefully he will get back to being Sam again. The Arlene baby…. not sure what that’s all about, kind of boring honestly.
Hoyt and Jessica are great together again and the show really needs that glue to help show that true love does exist in Bon Temps. I also love Hoyts mother, she cracks me up.
Overall both my wife and I were disappointed in the finale. From all I’ve read online from blogs and the actors themselves I was really expecting more answers and conclusions. Even Russel (whos character is amazing, bravo!) is still alive kind of. I also thought there was supposed to be a main cast death this season? what happened to that? I guess Bills maker dying maybe could count sort of… Anyhow guess we will find out in June… so far away.
Wouldn’t it be great is they had a Christmas in Bon Temps episode? It certainly would help ease the pain of waiting 9 more months for season 4 to start.
I agree. I like the way the last two seasons have ended. This one was much more “open ended.” Not happy with it.
As far as Jesus goes, I had the thought, that maybe Hallow sent him. Just a thought.
I think Sam shoots Tommy to get him to stop…he’s a shifter and will heal quickly. Nothing fatal. I’m curious about where they’ll take Tara next season. I was VERY tired of her by episode 11, and was glad she put on her big girl panties and got a grip on herself (or is trying to).
Jason, leader of Hotshot?? I love it! Shocked me to no end when Calvin got shot though…wasn’t expecting that!
Definately not a cliffhanger, but a good episode … not exactly what I expected in the finale, but I’m already counting down to June!
I normally would agree with you about shifters healing quickly, but I’m not sure they’re doing that on the show. Crystal’s eye is still black, and she’s a werepanther. Also, Calvin’s wounds were only healed through V. I’m hoping Tommy hasn’t been shot, but it’s hard to tell with where they are taking Sam.
I liked the episode-not really finale material but a good set-up for things to come. I have to agree that I didn’t like what was done with Calvin Norris and his character. And it doesn’t seem like True Blood is following the idea that shifters and weres heal faster then “normal” people. When Clavin was beat up by Sam earlier in the season he was about to die and needed the V to help him heal. I’m feeling that Layfette may have more of a central role next season (YEAH!!!!). Already looking forward to June-I wish they would do more then 12 episodes per season!
I was somewhat disappointed in the finale as well. I don’t know, I thought that I had read somewhere that Eric’s storyline was going to be a cliffhanger, but it wasn’t. It could have been, if he had not been rescued by Pam. And I would really like to know what in the world they are doing to Sam. Sam is a good guy, period: let’s leave him that way, please! I hope that he didn’t shoot Tommy in the back; he had worked so hard at overcoming his past, too. Sam is my reasonably stable, smart, go-to-good guy (it looks as if Alcide is being groomed for this part) when I’m irritated at the other main guys on the show, Bill, Eric, Jason…And speaking of Jason, what happened to all of his airtime? Or is it just me? I just re-watched Season 1, and it seemed to me that his airtime from then to now has been dramatically knocked down. I so love Jason and his brainless antics. I am also liking this hero persona with him and helping the people of Hotshot. Jason doesn’t know what to do with himself and his life, going from one thing to the next, now that he isn’t a football star, so I hope they are able to steer that storyline in a good direction. I, too, noticed the creepy baby doll in the house with Jessica and Hoyt. Doesn’t Summer collect dolls???? And last but not least, I’m so thankful that Bill is out of Sookie’s life, at least for a little while. Now it’s time for some Eric and Sookie action. Three words: Bring it on!
OMG, good point about Summer collecting dolls! I didn’t even think of that. Wow, that would be odd if she put some kind of curse/hex on Jessica and Hoyt.
Anyone noticed that Russell speaks German when Sookie destroys Talbot? If someone is intrested I can translate it.. but he is not very nice to her lol
I caught that he called her a b*tch but nothing else.
Ohh let us know!
I was wondering that precisely…
Yes, please translate!
After watching the episode all over again I still can´t get if AB is out of his mind or what?!
e.g.:
-When I saw Sookie throwing the remains of Russel´s lover in the sink, the way in which the character was portrayed was shocking. The real Sookie would never act like that! What on earth was that demonic laugh?!
-The dialog was awful through out the whole episode.
-Jason and Crystal scene at Hot Shot was so bad that was hilarious: Crystal in the show is a huge black panther and she just agrees to get back in the truck after seeing her daddy shot in the head?! Please… And after that she names Jason the town messiah while the guy with the gun just waits quietly in the truck. All of the sudden he is not crazy anymore?!
-Bill and the Queen flying scene for me was really cheesy.
-Hundred storylines that don´t make any sense, who cares about Arlene´s baby?!
From all the new things that AB created I really have to give him credit about Jessica, I hoped we had had more of that instead of Arlene or Tara.
-I completly disagree on how all the Fairy subject was introduced. I think anyone who read the books might understand why.
And besides all this, and more, I felt that this wasn´t a finale at all… It felt as if we were on the middle of this season!!!
Quoting another user comment from the post made on Sept.,12th: “I want to be optimist that True Blood doesn’t become a cheesy joke and that next season it finds a way to go back to the original rawness of the concept of vampires co-mingling with the living.” AMEN.
I enjoyed the episode, I watch it on a Monday so it gives me a little lift after the first day of the week at work, but I feel the same as you.
My husband liked the first series – it was raw and new, and now it feels somehow naff. There were some great moments in this series, but I hope series 4 pulls it back together.
Also, way too many storylines and too little screen time devoted to the great characters – I want to see more Jessica for instance.
Ok, as everyone has said…I was expecting much more for this final episode…I don´t know… something unexpected, something shocking…anyway…let´s move on
When Sookie save Eric it reminded me of something in one of the books…anyway… I liked, since the one showing his feelings has always been Eric.
When she threw Talbot away it was damned creepy! Seriously the more I see this actress playing Sookie the more I see that she is NOT Sookie!
Finally Bill is out! That´s all I can say.
As for the rest of the story lines… I just didn´t see something that let me hanging or let me dying to know what happens, first because they didn´t do anything exiting with the characters, it was like another normal episode, they didn´t put any mistery or something that could give us an idea of something, nothing!
And of course the fact that next season airs next year is just ridiculous, are all the shows on HBO like that??
I think is not about the actress: is about the director, or the script.
I felt the same about all that scene, plus when Bill tells her that he killed Eric and he will kill anyone for her she doesn´t even seem to care, she just sit there like thinking OK… At that point I just wanted to smash my TV…
I don’t think Sookie was not caring when he said that – I got the feeling like she was shocked that he would say and/or do something like that and it took her a moment to come back to her senses and kick him out. She was angry, crying, and kicking him out of her house even before Eric came back and told her the truth from past seasons.
FINALLY Bill’s dishonesty has been revealed to Sookie! The Bill-Sookie relationship has been increasingly boring to watch, so I couldn’t be happier they’ll be apart. Sadly I think this will end up only being for a little while as I think Alan Ball won’t keep them apart for very long (after all, he is a HUGE Bill fan – why??) and come up with a plot line that will probably involve Bill saving Sookie again and her forgiving him etc etc.
Unlike some other fans, I do like many of the changes Alan has made to the books except for one aspect. I feel he has done an injustice to all the Eric fans out there who were rightly expecting a larger role for him (more in line with the books). Please more Eric (and Pam) – they, along with Lafayette and Jason, are wonderfully brought to the screen and make the show. Also, Eric is pretty hot to watch!! The chemistry between Eric and Sookie is so much better than Sookie and Bill.
I did like this final episode, although I felt some aspects were glossed over/rushed (eg. Pam “taking out” her intended assasin was only talked about – would have been better shown). By the way, did I miss something? Bill told Sookie he intended to kill all who tasted her blood – but Pam didn’t – so if following his reasoning, there was no reason to kill her – except for his own selfish reasons of making all claims to Sookie. Probably need to watch the episode again.
Overall I thought it was the best season yet. Also while I remember, I have to add I think the actors who portray Jason and Lafayette are brilliant actors and completely embody their characters. Both almost always crack me up.
Just a tip: Bill said he will kill anyone who tasted Sookie´s blood or anyone who knew that Sookie was a Faery…
Well, the only thing I could be glad about this finale is that finally it looks like the
Bill-Sookie relationship seems to be over.
And of course from all the injustice AB did on this season the worst is on Eric´s character and storyline.
so agree with Sabrina…. AB really did a number on Eric’s character. I get not following the books exactly but he completely destroyed a well written character. Also agree with comments that there were way too many different storylines this season. Did anyone notice that except for the very beginning i don’t think Sookie was at work or even in Merlottes this whole season nor did she interact with one of her closest friends Sam at all. Way to disjointed for me.
Bill said he would “kill anyone who tasted her blood AND KNEW WHAT SHE WAS” Pam knows she’s Fairy… so she’s on the list. Same with QSA, she’s never tasted her blood, but she knows what she is.
Thanks to you both for clarifying – that answers that.
Yes, because Bill’s lost it. AB pointed out that Bills actions were an example of “the evil goin on” inside the characters that was the theme of the episode in the Inside the Episode video. Eric and Pam arent a real threat, and Bill knows it. Yes, Eric used her to take down RE, but Bill agreed to it and it was to keep Sookie safe too. Part of the plan was bill giving her blood after. Its not like Erics going to start going after her for her blood, and Pam has no interest in her whatsoever.
I think that Bill doesn’t want to lose another love. He lost his wife and was devastated by it. Now he’s about to lose Sook (or already has). That’s why he kept things from her, that’s why he wanted to protect her, that’s why he tried to get rid of Eric. Bill hasn’t loved anyone like this since his wife.
Eric, on the other hand, only loves Godric and Pam. Has he ever loved a woman romantically? NO.
He’s either capable of love or isnt. You admit he loves Godric and Pam. Therefore, he is perfectly capable of loving the right woman.
I really don’t totally get everyone freaking on the “Evil Bill” thing… really… how is Bill anymore evil than Eric or any vampire.
Bill was sent to find a human he knew nothing about… if Eric was sent by the queen would he have acted any differently at that time? Would he have felt bad watching her get beat up… did he care about Lafayette when he was in his dungeon?
The whole “I had to do dated you on a bet/Lied when I first met you/Was sent by my Queen to procure you” …. “But everything changed once I got to know you… and I fell in love with” you chestnut has been around 4-EVER. The only difference here is instead of being an arrogant or naive teenage boy… he’s a vampire… A VAMPIRE folks…. He does things with vampire sensabilities… like killing her Uncle Bartlett. So lets not confuse what he is… with who he is. He didn’t expect to fall in love with his item of procurement… but he did… and has done nothing but prove that point again and again and again since the first season.
- He killed her Uncle Bartlett
- He walked in the sun and nearly died trying to save her
- He fought with Lorena for days to get to her
- He has stopped feeding information to QSA and she has been pushing Bill to bring her to her, but he hasn’t.
- He, in all honesty, asked her to marry him
- He released his connection to her in order to save her from Russell (renouncing his fealty to QSA and giving it to Russell)
- He let her hate him so she would be safe (the phone call)
- He hasn’t updated the file on Sookie since his original research, which was probably before he even arrived in Bon Temp. Why is there no mention in her file that she can’t be glamored? or that she can shoot electrical stuff from her finger tips?
- Jessica knows he loves her, as his progeny she feels it (“But you love her”)
- Even when she didn’t want him there, he still protected her against superior forces in the Russell attack at her house
- He is still, even after he knows she is done with him, protecting her from all that know what she is and could harm her.
If he did the whole rat-ray thing now… I would say yes, Bill is evil… if he did that to someone he loved. … But as vile as the act was, it was no different than what any other vampire on this show would have done if directed by their superior. Bill was being a vampire before he met Sookie… she re-awakened his humanity… as he’s said several times. He truly loves her.
I’m not saying he should be forgiven… I’m just saying he’s not evil… And certainly no worse than Eric who has always been in it for his personal gains.. and had no issue using Sookie repeatedly for his own gain (saving Godric, drawing Russell out) even when it resulted in her injury at his own or others hands.
Love the show… love the characters… I just think Bill gets a bad rap.
Just my Penny times 2.
JimmyNice
I couldn’t agree more JimmyNice. Everyone wants Eric and Sookie together because thats what is in the books and Eric is smokin hot. Everyone thinks Bill is boring and evil now, but he has better motives than Eric for sure. As much as I would love to see more of Eric’s toosh, it doesn’t necessarily have to be with Sookie.
Im really hoping for a character and story overhaul here in the next season. Lets introduce another supernatural female besides Sookie for the men. She is easy on the eyes, and of course is Fairy, but having all three of those stud muffins after her? Thats a lot for one little woman to handle! Well I could of course, but not for Sookie.
Maybe introduce a female for Bill to go after, to keep him in the picture, and maybe even make Sookie jealous. Now that would be cool.
I really want to see more backround history on Eric, and Pam, and Bill too. Those flashbacks are always so fascinating. And I have to agree with another comment about the Crystal and Jason ending. She really hopped in the truck just like that after her half brother killed her uncle-daddy? No way, that was kinda lame. I am digging the Lafayette and Jesus deal. Thats going to be really interesting to see where that goes. I just hope AB gives a better story line for Tara and Sam next season. It felt like too much filler this season. They are excellent characters, so please give them more of a story line.
Can’t wait for season 4! Just about to read the fourth book too. ;o)
Give Eric a chance. Bill’s her first boyfriend. Eric obviously cares about Sookie. Not on the level that Bill does yet (which is at the point of obsession if you ask me), but that doesnt mean he’s not capable. He clearly loves Pam and Godric. I dont see why his intentions have to be bad.
without giving away a later book… there is someone recently introduced in the last book or 2 that could be a very good fit for Bill that would keep him in the picture and keep Sookie jealous… would be interesting to see if AB pulls her character in early.
I agree 100%!!!!Good points!!!!
I dont think Bill is evil, but he’s made too many mistakes and been too dishonest. And he was going to marry Sookie without telling her. And for some crazy reason he thinks its okay to kill everyone who knows Sookie’s a fairy, even though Bill knows Eric wouldnt harm Sookie and Pam has no interest in her whatsoever. Bill kinda lost it in the finale.
The differnce betweent the Rattrays thing and what Eric did (bulletsucking and standing while LS) almost killed Sookie is that Bill made it so he looked like a hero so she would fall for him. That was his intention with that whole setup. Eric didnt try to make himself look good by doing it, he was trying to manipulate Sookie into falling in love with him. With Eric, Sookies seen the bad stuff already. With Bill, it slowly came out over time, one secret after another, one lie after another, all while he was in a relationship with Sookie. Thats why its worse.
I meant to say Eric *wasnt* trying to manipulate Sookie into falling in love with him.
Interesting viewpoint… the question comes down to “was it for personal gain?” or “was it because he loved her” … or is it a gray area mix of both? I kind of look at Sookie & Bill like a twisted infinitely cooler version of Ross & Rachel from Friends… they belong together… but that doesn’t mean you get what you want… or that it’s going to happen for them any time soon.
I dont get people comparing Bill and Sookie to Ross and Rachel from friends, no offense to you, ive seen other people do it before. I dont see them that way at all. What Bill has done is way worse than anything Ross ever did to Rachel, even if you look at it in the “vampire” context of the show. I dont see this as a “misunderstanding” but a complete and utter portrayal.
The Rattrays and the Queen were for personal gain. Over time, Bill grew to love Sookie. But when did that develop? And what was a manipulation and what wasnt?
Thats probably what Sookie is asking herself. She doesnt know. And she fell in love with this hero image of Bill, but this was a concocted image. The Rattrays rescue set the tone for their relationship, Bill coming to her rescue all the time, only to find out it was a tool to make her fall for him. Thats a betrayal on the deepest level.
I dont see this as a “misunderstanding” but a complete and utter ***betrayal** is what i meant, bad typing.
I had a huge response written, but it said it was blocked by original comment poster… not sure if that’s a length thing or what?
Killing RE wasnt only for Erics personal gain. He was after Sookie too, and probbly Bill for escaping at the mansion. If Eric didnt kill him, Bill and Sookie would be doomed. Luring him out was the only way, but we saw Eric was regretful at having to use Sookie’s blood in his hesitation to bite her. Its not like he relished it or wanted to do it.
Yes, these are all facts from the show, however, he was pretty shady while doing it. I think that is where he is getting the bad rap.
1. Sookie confided in Bill about her Uncle, and Bill went without asking her, and KILLED him!
2. Yes he walked in the Sun for Sookie, because he loved her or was it the blood he was saving?
3. Lorena and Bill. He didn’t have to have intercourse and twist her head back. That shows a little craziness. He should have just killed Lorena, but he was scared of the consequences.
4. He has stopped feeding information to QSA because he knows there is something special about Sookie, and wants to Keep her for himself.
All your items listed can be argued to show how selfish/shady Bill really is to get want he wants. Yes, he may love Sookie, after the fact, but from start to finish he has been shady because he wants Sookie all to himself. Remember the line Eric said between Bill and Alcide, “when you two stop facing fu…king, meet me outside.” Ha..haa
He may have wanted to protect Sookie from all those who have tasted her blood/knows what she is, however Bill was totally shady when he and Eric were about to make a truce! So greedy.
Eric has not lied to Sookie when she has confronted him, as where Bill goes in circles to hide the truth; which was shown when Eric out Bill in front of Sookie.
For the record, Eric did NOT say face f***king. He said, eye f**cking.
Either way, it was still funny regardless! Well in the movie Get Him to The Greek, they say, “Mind Fu…king”
I am so disappointed by this final , so worried for Season four now!. Season four of any show ( in my opinion ) is the season when a show gets the boot or continues for an other! This final did not give me nothing but worries!
I was more excited and emotional when watching the Dexter Final ( I knew Rita would be murder from Youtube Promos and still cried) . I think AB might learn something from those writers… you want your fans shocked and moved not disappointed and frustrated .
AB go back to the source material please but I think AB has gone to far to turn back! Is anyone else worried??!!
I enjoyed the finale and am looking forward to next year. I couldn’t believe it when Bill double-crossed Eric, and I was suprised when he told Sookie he was killing them all to protect her (que love music). I’m glad Pam saved Eric so quickly and that he was able to tell Sookie Bill’s agenda.
I was absolutely shocked by the way Sookie acted when she poured Talbot’s remains down the garbage disposal. I found the way she laughed disturbing, but I guess they are trying to show how much she has changed when met with so much violence.
I’ve seen a lot of people post reviews that talked about the symbolism with the doll at Hoyt and Jessica’s new place. Does it mean Summer is going to be after them with her crazy doll collection??
So many unanswered questions, but I have high hopes that next season will be even better!
I thought Sookie’s laugh was a little evil at first. But, then I started to think. Sookie just got drained by Russell and Eric. Russell is explaining to her that her bloody is yummy, and that he wants to keep her to himself so he can walk in the day. Then Sookie asks Russell, why are you carrying this Urn around. She figures out that he believes her blood will bring back Talbot. This would mean, Sookie getting drained possibly dying because Russell is obsessed with bringing Talbot back. So, yes, if I was in Sookie’s position, I would definitely have an evil laugh while pouring the most important thing to Russell down the drain. Russell is not going to drain me for Talbot, because his butt is in the garbage disposal. Now, that would definitely deem an evil laugh from me.
I thought it was a fitting close to the season and am very excited about Season 4. I love True Blood!
I also wish the season would start sooner rather than later.
Lisa
I wish that the season finale was two hours long, since it is a whole long 9 months before we get to see anything new. They should give us more.
I agree. Or, take a week off here and there and make it last longer. The best thing would be more episodes in each season. Since it’s such a large ensemble of characters, each character really wouldn’t need to work that much more to create a few more episodes each season.
I really liked the end of this season, but I know season 4 is gonna be wicked!
I love true blood its the only series i watch.
TARA is tooo annoying. Please release us from her, and let her leave town to never ever return!
But we have been made to understand that fae-blood is somewhat like a drug to vampires, and Russel said some things while he was tied and burned, that Bill was smart keeping her like that, controlling him self and that way making the effect of her blood (guess there is no fae-sent like the books?) last for long. Russel was smiling ad acting like he understood the big picture, and in away Russel must be super smart, being so old. I really felt he was being very honest about how delicious her blood is to vamps, like Nirvana he said. That scene just made me think, Bill is HIGH and addicted on Sookie and he wants her all by himself for as long as he can make it last. Symptomes may be similar to being in love, I guess, but not true love..
Eric loves her for other reasons. He longs for her to understand him based on the fact she may be able to reach his past/memories and from there truly get who he is. He thinks she is super cool and tough and so much more exciting than any other human he has met probably since Pam.
Just my thoughts.
Interesting thoughts… on caveat though… if all Bill cared about was “the blood” why did he fore swear to never feed from her again if that’s what she wanted (and he didn’t feed from her again at any point after that) Also if it’s that uncontrollable… why isn’t Jessica losing her mind when she’s around (Baby Vamp and all) and she knows how Bill feels as his progeny “But… you love her” … still cool view point.
Men often say stuff like “i swear ill never do that again if you dont like it” to get women to go back to them. Ive had that kind of thing said to me. Im not saying bill didnt mean it, but i doubt it since right before that we saw that he fed off Sookie right after the draining in the truck, he healed the holes in the shower. (Actually to me that didnt make sense that he would even do that after that). But yeah he said it because he knew she wouldnt ask that of him. She had already let him feed off her.
Well… swearing to never feed on you again (if fae blood is like crack to vampires) isn’t quite the same as some jerk saying “I’m sorry I cheated on you with your sister, it won’t happen again” (I’m not saying that’s what happened to you
)… it would be more akin to someone having a lot of money and maybe he let you pay for dinners and evenings out… then to prove that he was in it for you and not the money, he could say… Ok… from here on out I pay my own way… An easy thing to prove and and easy thing to call him on if he goes back on it.
Men and women both lie. For some of my friends they’d be bored to death if there wasn’t drama like that. My wife and I prefer to sit from the sidelines and watch everyone else get wound up.
The smart part of the show is they play on our human experience so we can relate to what’s going on in the supernatural world.
Everyone has the experience of someone lying to them. The depth and degree of the lie and how we deal with it will color us as to how we respond to the drama in this… our favorite show on TV (at least it’s mine)
Bill lied to her when he didn’t know her… now loves her and didn’t know how he could ever reveal it without losing her. Classic double edged sword. Are you going to tell your husband of 15 years that the night you met him and supposedly fell in love at first site, you went home with a different guy and slept with him. You wouldn’t tell them at first… and what does it solve now?
These things, like Bills lie, often come back to bite you in the ass. So I can totally see both sides… Sookie has every right not to forgive Bill. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love her.. and it doesn’t mean I can’t see where the character was coming from.
Just my take.
I agree that for a short term ’fix’ a person will say just about anything. He knows she loves to be bitten and the whole blood-sex thing. Saying ‘if that is what you want’ is easy when he knows that is not what she wants… Unless he has lost her completely that is, to another man/vamp.
If you are working for something LONG TERM (which is what Russel was implying) you have to be just a little bit more clever and play a different psychological game; gain trust, show yourself to be worthy, make it look as if you are not insane or an addict about to freak.
I felt he was keeping stuff from her a lot. Misunderstanding who she is and what she needed. It was always ‘All I want is for you to be safe, I want for you to feel loved, I want I want’. Sometimes I mix up the books and the series, but Eric reads her and her needs way better. In the book he also helped her financially while Bill was giving money to distant relatives.
They didnt have sex again after that, so thats why we didnt see him feed off her after the sex post debbie and Rusell fight. The timespan from episode ten to the finale was one day.
I believe Bill tried to kill Eric because of the strong blood bond ,Eric now had with Sookie overriding the bloodbond between he and Sookie. (because of the age thing) Once Bill got rid of Eric, he knew Pam would come after him, so had to take her out.
But we dont have clear cut rules about the blood. Sookie’s has tons of Bills blood, and only a few drops of Eric’s. So it seems to me even with Eric’s more powerful blood, Bills blood would be still a very strong influence. We cant really know since we dont know the rules.
Well he said he was taking out anyone who;
A) had her blood
or
B) Knew what she was
Because even if Pam or Eric never acted on Sookie… they could certainly tell someone else who may not think twice in acting on her… or whose to say it wouldn’t be a bargaining chip either of them would not hesitate to use in the future… I mean Eric clearly had no problem using it to lure Russell.
As the final scene with Bill showed us (as matrixy lame as it was) he still intends to carry through with that mission.
I was extremely disappointed with the entire third season! Almost every episode left me wondering why I get so excited over the series. There were waaay too many storylines going on, and most of them were really irrelevent. I could easily live without Taras character in Season 4.
Sookie swears too much in this season, totally out of character and just plain annoying. They dumbed Jason down even more than he already was, although it was at times hilarious.
Sam has turned into a monster. I’ve always loved Sam, right from the first episode of the first season, but he’s polar opposite in season 3 as he was in season 2. I don’t get it. It’s like AB has ran out of ideas for Sams character.
Lafayette was not funny in this season. I always looked forward to his character because he provided comic relief to the series. Not in this season…
Overall, I found there were a TON of scenes in almost every episode that were more like “time-wasters,” that could have been filled with valuable storylines since we only get 12 hours of Trueblood every year. There was too much focus on everyone else and not enough about the vampires, which is what the show was supposed to be about. I really wish they would have followed the books, because I find Charlaine Harris’ imagination far more interesting than Alan Balls…at least after this season.
There were a few elements I DID like though, like Jessica and Hoyt. Their emotions were so raw, I felt like I could relate to that. I also really like Tommys character. I thought he was a good character to add to the show. Cute too!
Russell was funny, and Alcide fit the part perfectly! He was the only character that played the part that hes portrayed in the book. His chemistry with Sookie was SMOKIN HOT! I would’ve welcomed more scenes like that with the two of them.
If season 4 is a bust as well, I will no longer be watching Trueblood, which is extremely unfortunate as I live for Sundays during the summer to get my fix.
Rant Over.
If I had to rate the seasons. It would be 1st,3rd,2nd for me. I think we won’t be disappointed with 4. I’m glad that this show is launching a few carreers as well. Good for them.
“Bad Bill the Queen’s procurer, no biscuit. In the final scene, I thought Sookie was running to Bill to forgive him… and she wasn’t! Hallelujah brother, it’s over!”
Au contraire, she WAS running to forgive him. Eric popped in and spoiled the entire moment.
We dont know for sure what she was going to say to Bill, and she was in shock over Bill’s whole speech, plus bill saying he loved her AGAIN which noone has ever questioned. Sookie needed to know the truth, she certainly wasnt going to hear it from Bill.
I laughed out loud when Jason described Hot Shot as having,”several people who obviously got dental problems.” Too funny.
