SPOILERS: The Wait for THAT SCENE Is Almost Over (UPDATED)

By  |  51 Comments

The Sookie/Eric scene fans have been waiting for and Alan Ball has been promising is almost here. Per Jace Lacob, a TV critic who has seen the next couple of episodes of True Blood, the infamous shower scene takes place in episode 4.08, “Spellbound”, which airs Sunday, August 14. It appears Jace has not read the books, so after querying Twitter about the scene from the books, he had this to say:

Just so there isn’t any confusion, #TrueBlood‘s shower scene plays out *very, very, very differently* than in the books. Very.

Obviously Sookie & Eric’s relationship on True Blood is far enough along that the shower scene must play out differently than it did in the books. So what do we know about episode 4.08? The only hint we have of the pair comes from the official synopsis: Sookie and Eric pledge their allegiance to their king, aka Bill. So they are still together in some capacity. From the 4.09 synopsis, we know that Sookie is nearly killed in episode 4.08 (she’s described as convalescing in the next episode), but at whose hand?

The teaser reel shown at Comic Con ended with Sookie lying on the ground in the cemetery, bleeding from what looked like a gunshot wound. Does Eric find wounded Sookie and take her home, putting her in the shower to tend to her? Then remember that vampire blood heals and give her some?

So many possibilities…

Updated: Jace responded to a fan query about the scene with the following:

Not a bad moment for them. Quite beautiful, but very different than I imagined.

Fan of the Southern Vampire Mysteries since 2001, and co-admin of True-Blood.net since 2008. Team Sookie!

Alan Ball wrote this ep so I’m actually scared to see what he does with it, a part of me wishes he just didnt touch this scene at all. In the books it’s perfection for me.

I totally agree! That scene is PERFECT in the books. Alan Ball has totally screwed it up.

I hope he doesn’t put eric AND bill in the shower with her. That would just be creepy!

AB keeps saying it’s dirtier and this is exactly what I think he means. Weird threesome. If he adds Bill into that scene, I will be… *le sigh*

I’m thinking the shower scene is the Bill/Eric/Sookie dream that she has once she’s fed on both of their blood to heal from the gunshot wound. I’ve seen a couple of previews – the one that shows Sookie in red lingerie, getting up from the couch is all glowy and dream-like. Another preview has a scene where she’s caressing Eric’s face while they stand in the bathroom – also glowy and dream-like w/Sookie’s hairstyle matching the hairstyle she had w/the red lingerie scene. Its in that HBO preview they showed at Comic Con, I think. I don’t mind if they don’t make the shower scene the same – just keep giving us good E/S scenes along the way πŸ™‚

Exactly my fear… Sigh. It should be REAL and just Eric and Sookie. AB is gonna get cursed at like nuts if he messes up this scene πŸ˜› and with good reason!

Pretty sure that scene is from 4.09, Jamie. Click through the link above to the spoilers for that episode and read what it says about Sookie.

Oooh…Mel, you’re right! That def gives me hope! I think I was expecting the worst scenario for that situation. While I don’t mind a E/S/B dream sequence, I really don’t want that coloring the development of E/S. Also, after some investigation…there’s another theory about what the “dirtier & weirder” AB comment might mean. Also, AS might’ve hinted at it on his recent Regis/Kelly interview. The theory concerns something that happens further on in the books between E/S…but, not sure if I want to be that optimistic about this scene. I’m going to take a “wait and see” approach – haha…I love how I bounced from my idea of the worst scenario to the best. TB you are messing w/my head!!!

I absolutely cannot wait to see what Alan Ball did with the infamous shower scene. I have read the books and personally I thought the shower scene was remarkable. It was a very detailed piece and it represented the growth within Sookie and Eric’s relationship quite well. Alan Ball is an incredible producer and writer, the shower scene is in good hands!

      August 6, 2011 at 4:05 pm

I wish I had your confidence, I actually dont like how AB writes Eric and Sookie, I prefer Raelle Tucker and Nancy Oliver….Mark Hudis did a superb job this season with Eric/Sookie in his first outing.

      • Nicole

        August 7, 2011 at 1:51 pm

I find that AB’s perception on Eric and Sookie’s relationship is quite interesting and different. I understand your fear of the scene being ruined in some way. I mean how do you compare to the beautiful writing skills of Charlaine Harris, right? I agree that Mark has done a fantastic job with Eric/Sookie. I look at it as every writer has different unique writing techniques/skills. Alan Ball understands what the fans of the book series are expecting so it’s clear why he would change the scene, he doesn’t want to repeat the exact words of the books. But he has a full understanding of what will keep the fans happy. Just try to have an open mind that is what I always say!

Ok he added the scene is beautiful, just different to what he imagined so I feel better lol

Actually, Alcide has the wounded Sookie. Look closely at him running and you’ll see he’s carrying Sookie after she was shot.

    August 6, 2011 at 7:13 pm

I just hope he doesn’t make it some dream scene of Sookies, where she dreams of showering with Eric and then Bill joins in… or vice versa. I’ll be furious!

  7. Teya

    August 7, 2011 at 2:02 am

Eric won’t be the one to carry her, it’ll be Alcide, I saw in one of the spoilers Alcide carrying her and she’s wearing the same clothes and isn’t awake; probably fainted.

    August 7, 2011 at 4:00 am

Woah! I don’t know what to think. I just hope it’s just Eric & Sookie & no third party at all.
I’m thinking of weird things now. Oh God!

    August 7, 2011 at 5:30 am

Please, please, please True Blood – don’t even go anywhere near there being a third party in that scene or it being a dream. I’m sure they won’t. Charlaine Harris did say in an interview that Alan Ball realised how important this scene is to book readers so I think (hope) he will treat it with respect. (If Bill is anywhere near this scene they will get a lot of very strongly worded letters and I’m sure they realise this). Just Sookie and Eric please and I’ll be happy with that even it’s in a very different context.

I’ll admit that I’m a little worried about this. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. We’ll see on August 14th. Thanks for keeping us updated, Mel! πŸ™‚ I really appreciate True-Blood.net’s thoughtful consideration for book fans regarding this scene.

    August 7, 2011 at 3:41 pm

If they make this shower scene a dream sequence, and if they add Bill into the mix, I have my doubts for future TB seasons to even come close enough to be called “based on the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries” at all. They are supposed to take the main idea from each book to make each season, and the shower scene is a very MAIN POINT. LOL At least if you follow 99.9% of the Sookie fans out there. And if they mess with what made us all stick with the show this long, I am scared to think what many will do. At least we know Charlaine Harris will keep writting amazingly, and maybe more ppl will turn to the books (and talk her into doing more of them. LOL Just kidding, I know she is burned out)

  12. Danielle

    August 7, 2011 at 9:07 pm

The new episode just finished up here and can we say cliff hanger. Anyways looks like the shower scene is next week (can’t wait) and it looked like just sookie and eric in the shower…what a relief. Now lets just hope no one is hiding in the corner and that its not a dream

  13. Brandon

    August 7, 2011 at 10:54 pm

Okay everyone, let’s keep in mind that the show hasn’t followed the books to the dot, so what’s going to make them start now? I will admit myself that I am going to be very upset to see the beautiful shower scene altered in any way, shape or form…

And this is also in regards to the “Alcide carrying wounded Sookie” scene… Remember that Sookie kills Debbie in the books while Erics memory is erased, so maybe the blonde he is carrying is a dead Debbie? (I never watched the scene/spoiler video, so I don’t know if they showed the girls face.)

Last tidbit, I just need to vent… IF JESSICA DIES I WILL TOO! She is such a independent character who is still wandering the path of growing up that it would just break my heart to see her die! I saw a very heartbroken looking Hoyt in the preview for August 14th’s episode as if he had just been told that she was dead…

Come on Alan, anything but Jess. Even if this means taking away such an interesting (SARCASM) character such as Bill… (because that would be a total loss… Want to ruin any other Eric & Sookie scenes this season?)

  14. Astrid E.

    August 8, 2011 at 7:37 am

Remember how Eric gives blood to Sookie in book 3 ? That didn’t happen in the third season (I was totally bummed about it). I think it will now. Eric will give blood to Sookie to heal her (in a sexy way, of course) and it will end up in the shower.

We already know that it will not and cannot be the shower scene we read in the book. They already bonded, kissed and had sex once. To keep expecting it to be left untouched will only lead to disappointment. But I’m sure it will be sweet, romantic, beautiful and emotionally deep. I’m optimistic. πŸ™‚

    August 8, 2011 at 7:41 am

… Plus, sharing blood at this point will strengthen their relationship and make the moment even more passionate.

  16. Michele

    August 8, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I read somewhere that there might be some kind of blood exchange between them. Like Sookie biting Eric and him biting her to make them have this blood bond. And please, please, please don’t let Bill be there.

    August 8, 2011 at 3:08 pm

If you read the synopsis for episode 9 – it says Sookie envisions a world with both Eric and Bill in it. My fear is this will be the shower scene in a dream sequence.

    • Mel

      August 8, 2011 at 3:09 pm

That synopsis is for episode 4.09; the shower scene happens in episode 4.08 as noted above.

    August 8, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Ok I am confused….and Yes I never read the books….I am True Blood Episode Fan from day one. I don’t understand why every one is excited by Eric and Sookie relationship when it is based on a lie. Eric has AMNESIA…she would never go for the real Eric.

I miss Bill and Sookie πŸ™

    • Tiram

      August 8, 2011 at 4:00 pm

@Dasha well… most people who’ve read the books are Team Eric, because he’s a bit funnier and more charming there (if possible…). Amnesia Eric isn’t a different person, it’s just letting a part of Eric’s personality shine through. He’s no longer concerned about politics and power. For the first time she really sees who he truly is.

      • Astrid E.

        August 8, 2011 at 5:45 pm

I agree with Tiram. Amnesia Eric isn’t a lie. We just see another side of him, closer to his humanity. Eric has it in him, but doesn’t show it. After a thousand years of experience, a business to run and the responsibilities of a sheriff, he doesn’t get to be all emotional and vulnerable really often. But his love for Sookie has brought it all back up. All vampires have these conflicts between their vamphuman natures.

We finally see how Eric really feels about Sookie and what he’s been trying to hide from her (and from himself) for a while.

        • Jules

          August 8, 2011 at 6:32 pm

I know this is off topic, but I had to reply. If you remember back to season1. Sookie and Bill exchanged blood right away. It has left some of us feeling that this has enhanced their passion for one another, and possibly paints Bill as not such a great guy if it’s about the blood,( of course it looks as though it has evolved since then into more concrete feelings ). Eric fans, however, know Eric never tasted her ( until season 3 end) and had this deep connection w/ her that was real, deceptions were necessary and strategic in keeping her alive. Back on topic…I hope I eat my words but… I think the shower scene may disappoint, since its whole purpose in the book was the consummating of the much anticipated E/S relationship.

    • Kaye

      August 9, 2011 at 10:41 pm

ok, I just had to reply too, you have your POV but I see things differently. Like most of the commenters here, Eric’s amnesia has probably just erased all the struggle, violence and politics of being a 1000-year old vampire. Like he said in TB, he has actually “lived through” a lot of history. The amnesia isn’t a lie, it was just an opportunity for his humanity and old soul to come out a bit. Then Sookie became the only world and life he knows.

And just like someone said here… Bill has lied from day 1. He has given her his blood after a situation that he orchestrated (the Ratrays incident). Therefore Sookie should actually be wondering if her love and attraction for Bill actually came from the blood in the first place. Maybe Bill eventually fell in love with the “subject” of his mission (Sookie), but that doesn’t change the fact that it has all been based on a lie. And that fact rings true both for the books and True Blood.

And if you have read the books, you’ll realize that Eric & Sookie relationship has been built up slowly but surely. Therefore, they have a real relationship. In the books, Sookie has said that Eric “gets” her. And in the beginning of S4 of TB, Eric has reiterated that he “knows the real Sookie” and believed all along that she’s alive and will come back.

Eric & Sookie is NO lie….

I started reading the books after I watched seasons 1 &2… I AM A SOOKIE/ERIC fan all the way!

I love the fact that boring…. LYING… Bill falls out of the spotlight in book 3.

Eric is witty, sexy, funny & dangerous.. oh yea… he’s smoking hot to boot.

I know all the show fans hate that the book fans push for Sookie/Eric , but all I can say is… read the first 4 books and then come talk to me πŸ˜‰

@Astrid E & Tiram, right on the nose! I’m a bookie & love the show….Eric has loved Sookie from the beginning, both books & show…Bill’s been a lie from the start. I’m hoping E/S storyline is one thing AB sticks to in show. I’m loving this season! I’m looking fwd to see how the “witch war” pans out compared to books. I wanna see Sam turn into something big! πŸ˜‰

  21. Danielle

    August 9, 2011 at 11:49 pm

Sam doesn’t turn into something big until the were war in like book 7 or 8. I love the books and the show. I am trying to be realistic about the shower scene. I know it won’t be like the book and honestly I don’t think it could ever be as good as the book but I’m still excited to see how it plays out. I mean seriously its a shower scene with alex how bad can it be:-) if yore a show fan that hasn’t read the books I get how you don’t understand/like the eric sookie story line. Its so much more obvious that the feelings they develop for each other while eric is cursed are real. He gives her someone that she can share her life with and there is more of that in the books than they could possibly put in the show.
    Anyways…I’m waiting….ve impatiently

whatever we get in the shower scene we will always want more. Lets be honest girls who wouldnt like the cleanest shoulders in Bon Temp with eric.Im sure it will be quite superb,i know not like the book but not everyones read them, so we will have to wait and see and hold our breath, then give a huge sigh when its over, and then rewind and watch again and again.x

From some of the quick spoiler scenes, I’m thinking that Sookie gives Eric blood while he’s in chains to keep him from going out in the sun/protect him in case he gets into the sun. Because he’s under the spell, he may take too much — and then has to give her his blood. At that point, they both need a shower :).

    August 12, 2011 at 1:58 am

I share the same concern as many of you….I’m afraid that Bill will enter the shower scene. I feel that Bill has had the spotlight for three seasons…in the 4th book Bill is pushed into the background. It seems like AB is determined to not hand over the lead to Alex…So with that in mind…
In the book the relationship between S and E is sincere and more romantic ( talking in front of the fire, etc.) and to tamper with this scene in a wierd way would make the entire relationship less meaningful…Hope I’m wrong.

We, my daughter and I, love love love Eric and Sookie together. We’ve never cared for Bill with Sookie. Sorry, but he sucks. Eric is so sensitive and we LOVE him this way, his new self. We’ve never read the books. I don’t think I’d want to. Please keep Eric this way and keep Sookie and Eric’s passion and adoration for each other alive. It’s wonderful to watch and he’s so endearing, I would be so depressed if something happened to them.

I don’t like it at all that while Sookie is shot, Eric is being hurt by that witch! That witch needs to be taken out NOW. Eric needs to get away from the witch and save Sookie, not Bill or Alcide. Frustrating….

By the way, this is my favorite season as well…I suppose because of Eric and Sookie together now. I did NOT like the Maryann crap. It was just weird as shit and gross. I didn’t like it that Eggs got killed either. Nor do I like this stupid homosexual kick Tara’s on. I mean, come on…not gay this whole time and then all of a sudden, she is? Just stupid. I don’t like her going against Sookie either.

    Team Eric and Sookie!! =)

If you want some good Eric-Sookie stuff, read the books. You won’t find anything good in the show about them as it goes.

Really? Nothing? Not one single moment in 4 seasons? I think disappointment over the shower scene is clouding your emotions and making you forget some of the truly great moments Alan Ball has given us on his show.

  29. Michele Beasley

    August 15, 2011 at 6:14 am

I was throughly disappointed on how Alan Ball portrayed the shower scene. It was sweet and romantic yes, but it got weird with the snow and the bed in the woods. But why should I be surprised. Alan Ball seems to get almost every scene wrong. I understand that he doesn’t want to follow the books, but there are certain stories in the books that need to be followed. He can do whatever he wants with the Lafayette/Sam/Tommy/Arlene stories but please play out Eric and Sookie the way it should be. I swear he’s so PRO BILL, it’s disgusting.

    • Anja

      August 15, 2011 at 7:51 am

He messes up Eric and Sookie for us so people will like Bill again. Bill did all nice things this episode, and Eric was or too soft and needy, or ripping out throats and draining people – due to a spell Antonia was casting which Sookie heard. Still, Sookie had to look disgusted and that will be the end of E/S for now. Thanks AB… not.

      • Liz

        August 16, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Well that would be the most ridiculous thing. Messing up Eric and Sookie so we would like Bill again? Oh I get it, you’re kidding!
