Janina Gavankar Gets Geeky with Posterous

By  |  0 Comments

We’ve known Janina Gavankar was a geek for quite a while; she mentioned in our interview last spring that she was the first celebrity to sign on to Twitter waaaaaay back in 2006. Then she found Posterous and continued to conquer social media. Now she talks to Forbes (!) about the Posterous theme she developed for fellow actors, some tips for actors using social media, and more.

Your theme is uncluttered, but it has some nice touches to it. Can you tell me about some of the design choices?

Thanks! I’m always drooling over great design, from fashion to furniture. I was focused on building a streamlined experience. Casting directors, producers, and directors don’t have time to think about animated fonts, and color choices. They’re on your site to see if you’re right for the part. So, I created a theme that is clean and that acts like an interactive business card.

You call yourself a geek — so what tips do you give a non-geek actor who’s just realizing s/he has to get involved with social media?

Feel no pressure. You don’t have to do any of this! You’re an actor first and foremost. No one is going to hire you because you tweet a lot. They’ll hire you because you’re great at what you do. Now, finding an easy way to display your talent? That’s a good start.
