POLL: Who Is Ben?

By  |  34 Comments

We’ve only known him for two episodes, but we’re not sure what to make of Ben, the new Fae in town. Is he connected to Warlow? Or is he just another romantic interest for Sookie? Take our poll below.

Something that was said in last night’s episode made me think Ben is Warlow. Last season, Claude told Sookie she had “psychically bonded” with Warlow when they accessed the memories of her parents’ deaths. Now, Sookie can feel Ben in her head when she’s never felt anyone else before. Coincidence? Perhaps, but very suspect in my mind.

WOW, I didn’t catch that! I also noticed that Ben said he hasn’t experienced human kindness in a long time or something like that. It sounded as if he was locked up for a long time.

So maybe Warlow has held Ben captive for several years and just released him as part of his plan to capture Sookie? That would have been horrible, for a faerie to be captured by a vampire. I wonder if this is True Blood’s version of what happened with Sookie and Lochlan & Neave in Book 9.

Do you think he could’ve pulled him into the realm he was banned to? Could Ben have survived that place? Considering he’s a halfling and needs to eat.
It is kind of odd that Ben appears around the same time, and he’s strolling around the field, maybe he led Warlow there after Sookie told him?

Good catch. But wouldn’t Niall catch onto it if Ben was Warlow? And how can he be walking around in the sun?

Ben is Warlow because: Warlow has to be at least part fae to be able to get into the fae nightclub and go to the fae realm (where he killed Niall’s family). Ben showed up right when Warlow did. And how did he know where the fae night club was? Because Sookie told him. I think he is a special vampire that can also walk in the sun because he is part fae too.

          July 1, 2013 at 12:42 pm

Wouldn’t Niall know that? He’s been tracking him (hunting him) for millennia. And what about the mind reading? A Vampire with no weaknesses and all the fae powers? How could Claudine banish him then?
And shouldn’t Ben be healed if he was a Vampire?
There’s definitely something going on with Ben, but him being Warlow doesn’t add up (just my personal opinion, no offense) .

I agree, there are too many “he could be Warlow, except that…” statements we could make. Granted, we don’t know the extent of Warlow’s powers, but so far we’ve only encountered him at night, so I don’t think he can be out in the daylight. As we saw with Bill, Lilith’s blood isn’t enough to allow them out in the sun.

          July 1, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Russell Edgington would have been able to enter the club after feeding on fairies. I think Ben is warlow and he just needs a steady diet of fairy to walk in the sun.

Right Ben was walking around in he daylight just like Russel did after he drank fairly blood! I wonder how long he gets for draining that many Fae? A day or more?

They showed Warlow coming into our world in the same bridge where Claudine banished him. Vampires 1 can’t shift and two they can’t walk in the sun either. Definetively not Ben, but I think Ben might be up to something.

Yeah he is Warlow because his story is bogus about being attacked by a vampire because he wouldn’t have a little scratch on his forearm plus what vampire can attack in the daytime ……he can feel Sookie like no one can and I think that contract has something to do with that and the faerie club he knew where it was from Sookie. Lastly in the promo for next week Niall has been attacked and is laying on the ground while a man that looks like Ben is walking past him and that I am sure is Warlow presenting himself to us.

I noticed that in the preview too. Also, the figure walking by Niall’s body has a gray shirt on and Ben is wearing a gray shirt at the beginning of the preview.

Many are bringing up the fact of the “vampire attack” during the daytime, but remember in last night’s episode Niall told Sookie and Jason 1.) that they don’t know everything about Warlow; 2.) the blood that Niall picked up from the club wasn’t anything he’d seen before. So I wouldn’t totally rule out the fact that Warlow can walk during the day. Mel and I discuss that further in this week’s podcast which we just finished recording. πŸ™‚

      • Madeleine

        July 1, 2013 at 3:25 pm

Are we sure the attack happened during the day and not the night before? I mean, Niall found the club during the day, but who knows how much time has passed since the attack?
And wasn’t that faery blood? Warlow killed them all, right? I don’t think anybody made him bleed. They only have their light as a weapon, have we ever seen somebody bleed after a blast?
But now that you mention it : could it be Ben’s blood? When he and Sookie touched the light looked similar, and Niall noticed he was hurt, could be a new injury. That would be an indication that Ben led Warlow to the club and is working with Warlow.

          July 1, 2013 at 3:41 pm

We’re not sure of anything regarding Ben at this point, but we’re also not sure he was attacked at night at all. I mean whether Ben was attacked during the day or at night is not clear at all.

Being that the blood Niall detected at the club reacted differently than the fae blood he scanned with his hand, we cannot assume that it was fae blood at all. Also, he pointed out that it didn’t react the way he had ever seen before.

Didn’t we see one of the fairies throw something at Warlow as he was attacking? It didn’t look like light to me. It looked like once they saw that their light was having no effect on Warlow, they resorted to whatever they could use.

As I said, Mel and I debated and discussed all of this in our podcast which will be out in the next day or two.

Okay, this episode was so confusing, I have so many questions! But I will present only the 4 main ones.

    a) How Ben knows about Warlow (when he asked Niall if the vampire who killed Niall’s parents was Warlow) and how Niall was not surprised and why he didn’t ask him from where he knows Warlow?

    b) How the Governor knew that it was Eric that kidnapped his daughter and how the soldiers knew that something was happening upstairs? PS. Eric never introduced himself to the Governor…

    c) Why Nora was watching over Sookie?

    d) How the Governor expect to be victorious when he has so stupid soldiers shouting “Found him, sir!” when they track a call?! Eric was so confident with his untraceable cellphone to the point Governor could actually catched them if he had smarter soldiers.

Anyone who have a clue, please do enlighten me.

As for the question, I believe Ben is just working for Warlow. That’s how he knew him.

    • Madeleine

      July 1, 2013 at 2:48 pm

The Governor could know Eric from his TV spot (he did one for Nan), wich would also lead the Gov’s troops to Fangtasia.
I don’t think Nora was watching over Sookie, I think she was awaiting Warlow there, or looking for a clue how to find him.
Eric kidnapping Willa was simply deduction, Willa wasn’t in her room, the window was open, Eric had shortly before proven he could fly. Moving sensors could’ve alerted the guards (for example).
Ben could’ve picked up on the name Warlow in Sookie’s mind, but he also knew about Niall being the King of the faeries. It is imaginable he had contact to fullblooded faeries like Sookie had, who told him.

Does anyone out there know if there was a casting call for the role of Warlow or some other vaguely named role that COULD BE Warlow? If not, that could be a key sign that Warlow is somebody that is already on the show. Just some food for thought.

        • Mel

          July 1, 2013 at 4:18 pm

Initially when Rutger Hauer was cast, they called him “Macklyn”, which had all of us assuming he was “M. Warlow”. But then later he was identified as Niall, and our source at HBO would only comment that “sometimes they change character names”, which isn’t even a little bit helpful. πŸ˜›

Considering how many times the things HBO or the actors let slip turned out to be a decoy I’m pretty sure they did cast someone and managed to keep it secret. I’m real curious how this will turn out, and I’m hoping they don’t go down the hybrid-road …

If you consider, Niall said that Warlow killed all of his family or village. So that means that Warlow drank a lot of fairy blood. So that is why Warlow can walk in the sun? πŸ™‚

    • Madeleine

      July 2, 2013 at 4:11 am

But that was a long time ago. When Eric killed Claudine and drained her completely he got half an hour, or a bit more (?) . So the effect of faery blood seems to wear off.
Even considering he’s very old and very strong I doubt draining a couple of faeries would last much longer than a few hours, lot less years.
By the way, how much blood can one Vampire drink at once? He’s gotta be full at some point, too much candy makes you sick, right? πŸ˜‰

What if by chance the reason Warlow wants Sookie is because she has royal fae blood AND THEREFORE he wants her to have his babies? If Ben is Warlow and he is half fae (and also able to have a child with another fae) he is doing exactly what is predictable – trying to seduce and sleep with Sookie to procreate his kind. That is the only motivation I can think why Warlow wants Sookie, not to kill her but for her to have his baby. It fits nicely with the Ben is Warlow theory.

I was thinking that too. since the next episode will be that they have dinner and stuf. oh I going to holliday next week. So I won’t be seeing the spisode until the next one. But okay that means that I will be watching two parts together πŸ™‚

I love love love the chat Mel and Liz have setup during the episodes. So wonderful to be able to talk about all these theories and share all things True Blood with everyone here!

I agree. Ben asked Sookie out and keeps reading her mind. It is a strong possibility that Sookie is the one he (Ben/Warlow) wants to mate with and have fairy/vamp children with. This is crazy but possible!

I think Ben and Warlow are one and the same person. Similar to the characters Glory and Ben from Season 5 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Both existing at different times within one body.

I dunno….I would like to presume that at least the writers would be a little more stealthy than to introduce this Ben character in episode 2 only to have us figure him out by episode 3. There is an awful lot of evidence both real & suspect to make Ben Warlow. So much so- that if he is Warlow, then I’d say that’s pretty crappy writing. If we think we’ve got this all figured out so fast, it would seem pretty pointless to go on. So Ben is something more for sure…but not Warlow. He’s alluded to a really rough life more than once; which suggests he’s been working for Warlow or he too is being chased by him. Otherwise, it’s all just a huge red herring to throw us on & off track only to find out in the end- he was Warlow all along. I don’t think they would do that to us. If we look at the patterns of the previous “big bads” on this show, they were always either right in your face like Mary Ann or Russell or super surprising like Rene Lenier from Season 1 whom we really never got a confirmation on until near the end of the first season. Bill seemed completely conflicted & altruistic for a long time too before we knew he was hired to procure Sookie. I don’t think that was made clear until season 3. So, bottom line-we are not supposed to know & experience can safely say at this point, it is not open & shut. For the record, I am liking this Ben character & interested where it goes- few agree, but I think he’s hot & so far, a kinda nice change.

Ben is def Warlow hands down!!! When Sookie first found him in the woods she read his mind and he said something about smelling blood, that and afterall he is Lilith’s progeny so anything is possible!!! Kind of sucks that he is the bad guy though to them cuz he is really hot

I think Ben is Warlow because Ben showing up like that out of the blue and being able to connect with Sookie is highly suspicious! He may want to procreate with Sookie! Warlow may find Eric and Bill competition! Uh-oh!

I think that Ben simply is doing the “leg work” for Warlow. When a vampire gets a taste of Fae blood, they drain them dry until they are dead. Why wasn’t Ben drained completely? I think because Warlow cannot walk in the daylight, Ben is doing his bidding for whatever reason. I do not for one minute believe they are one in the same. I think Ben led Warlow to the Fairy Club and I believe he is surveying who is protecting Sookie and the situation Warlow will have to deal with to get to her! But he is not Warlow.
