Bill Compton

A vampire walked into a bar…and it was Bill Compton. And the bar was Merlotte’s and the waitress was Sookie. Thus begins our journey in Bon Temps.

The first season was all about Bill coming home to Bon Temps and moving back into the home that had been his for over a hundred years. He and Sookie form an immediate attachment when Sookie rescues Bill from the Rattrays, who want to drain him and sell his vampire blood to humans. Later, the favor is returned when the Rattrays attack Sookie outside of Merlotte’s, almost beating her to death. Bill gives Sookie his blood which heals her broken body, and the two embark on a hot romance.

Bill gets into trouble with the Magister and his punishment is to turn a captive human girl into a vampire, which he does with great reluctance. However, out of the horror of turning his first human comes the wonderful relationship between Bill and his child, Jessica.

Specifically, locating Eric’s maker, Godric. the season ends with Bill proposing to Sookie during a romantic dinner-by-candlelight. Sookie hesitates, excusing herself to freshen up and think things over. When she returns to tell Bill she accepts his proposal, he is gone.

Things between them heat up once again and Bill breaks things off with Sookie, who has been searching for him. Russell becomes curious about Sookie and wants lures her to his mansion, in spite of Bill trying to get Sookie to leave Mississippi for her own good.

After Bill tries to attack Russell, the King turns Bill over to Lorena who tortures him until Sookie finds and rescues him, killing Lorena in the process. They make their escape but as they are leaving, Bill, in his weakened condition, attacks Sookie, draining her to near death. At he hospital, Bill gives her his blood and saves her life.

After Sookie confronts Bill about the files he was keeping on her and her family, Bill tells her that she is in fact part fairy.

It is Bill who introduces Sookie to Eric Northman and Fangtasia. Bill and Eric have a respect/hate relationship and they both fall for Sookie, making relations between them even more explosive. They continually try to get each other in trouble with vampire authorities, but the bitter ax falls when Eric tells Sookie that Bill was originally sent to Bon Temps by Sophie-Anne, and that Bill allowed the Rattrays to beat Sookie nearly to death just so he could feed her his blood, winning his way into her life. In the end, Sookie tells both boys to take a hike.

In season 4, we return to Bon Temps a year after Sookie had accepted an invitation from her fairy godmother to join her in fairy land. Upon her return, she discovers that Bill, having killed the queen of Louisiana, is now its king.

Is he a god, invincible and powerful? He quickly discovers that he can walk in the sunlight, and he’s having visions as well. Visions of the future where all the vampires he cares about are being held captive in a place where they are about to be exposed to sunlight.

Meanwhile, Bill is also trying to find a way to synthesize his own super powered blood and make it available to all vampires, further keeping them safe from extinction.

The governor of Louisiana is also rounding up all vampires and bringing them to a sort of camp where terrible experiments are being conducted on them daily. Tara, Pam, Jessica and Eric are among the captives.

During these terrible experiments, Eric is tortured by watching them inject Nora with Hep-V, a killing infection to vampires. Eric manages to escape the camp with Nora, taking her to Bill in hopes that he can heal her. Bill cannot.

Bill, still plagued by visions of vampires burning in the sunlight, goes to the camp and finds the room where the vamps are being held. Just as the roof begins to open, he throws himself at the vampires, ordering them to feed off of him, thereby enabling them to survive the sunlight with his Lilith-infused blood.
