Tidbits from Alan Ball on True Blood Season 2

Alan Ball was on a conference call with reporters today, discussing True Blood‘s second season, and bless their hearts, they were Tweeting bits of information throughout the call! Here’s a round up from Jennifer Godwin, the Televisionary, and Mo Ryan:

  • Charlaine Harris will have a cameo in the final episode of the season;
  • Alan says Charlaine is “90 percent happy” with how the series has turned out so far;
  • Alan Ball hasn’t seen Twilight the movie or read the books, doesn’t quite understand a vampire story “about abstinence” — “I guess it makes it safe for young girls…”;
  • “Vampires are sex”;
  • Alan has no intention of including Bubba in the show;
  • At some point in season 2, we will meet the oldest and “most human” vamp we’ve seen yet. A guy, not [Evan Rachel Wood’s] character;
  • Per Alan, the theme for season 2 of True Blood is “the power of cults, whether strange neo-Greco-Roman cult or church/organized religion.”

Alan also sat down for an interview with Sci Fi Wire, in which he promises that season 2 will be “more intense…scarier…sexier” than season 1. Hoo boy! Here’s an excerpt:

According to Ball, the vampire series will continue to explore the “terrors of intimacy, in that when you really, really open up and let another person into your life and your psyche, it can be terrifying—especially when that person is a vampire. … And then there’s just the whole exploration of the dark side of human nature,” he said.
