Letters to Cast and Crew: Lafayette

Dear Lafayette,

You don’t know me, but I’ve been watching you since I first saw you, working so efficiently in the kitchens of Merlotte’s, more than a year ago. I must say, the change you’ve undergone has been quite dramatic. When I first saw you, you were so self-confident and snarky, it was delightful to watch you. You were a comfort to Sookie when she needed it, and you always seemed to have such words of wisdom for your cousin, Tara. And you seemed to be on your way up in the business world.

Lately, however, I’ve noticed you have become sort of distant. What’s eating you? Where’s that flamboyant fellow gone to? You’ve been acting as if something collared you and nailed your ass to a wall or something. What did you do? Who did you piss off? Is this about the AIDS burger? Did Pam or Eric want those wonderful, gold pants of yours and you refused? Those two can be such children sometimes.

I hope that whatever happened, you’ve been able to work things out. I noticed Eric showed up at your place with a gift, so I assume you’ve patched things up with him. You seemed quite happy when he left. I’m glad to see you back at Merlotte’s, but jeez, Lafayette, you do need to lighten up a bit. Talk to someone about what happened while you were away. Get it off your chest. It’s not like you don’t have any friends. Sookie would listen! She’s good like that.

Whatever the case, honey, it’s good to see you again. You may notice some changes at Merlotte’s as well. I don’t want to spread rumors, but don’t be surprised if you catch Terry and Arlene snogging in the cooler once or twice. And there’s a new waitress, Daphne. She seems to be jonesing for Sam, but I wouldn’t turn my back on her, if I were you. That deer-in-the-headlights stare is all show.

Yours faithfully,

Liz Henderson
