“The Vampire Diaries'” Ian Somerhalder Wanted True Blood Role

In a recent Q & A with Newsweek, Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries, Lost) revealed that he had auditioned for True Blood, and was upset when he didn’t get the part. “I am. I’m from New Orleans. There’s a lot of vampire mystique and mythology that resonates there, and I was fascinated by it. I always wanted to play one. I auditioned for True Blood. I just couldn’t convince Alan Ball that was my role. And then I didn’t get it, and I was very bummed. I couldn’t watch True Blood until now.” Oddly enough, given his current role on Diaries, he didn’t audition for a vampire role. It was Ryan Kwanten’s Jason Stackhouse that Somerhalder auditioned for.

While I don’t doubt that Ian could have pulled off a part in True Blood, I’m really liking him as the bad vampire, Damon, in Diaries. He’s pretty creepy, especially when he goes completely vampire. Maybe he can still wind up guest starring in the third season. Come on, Alan Ball, give a guy a break! He’s pretty enough.
