Report: Vampires Bring $7 Billion To Hollywood Economy
The Hollywood Reporter crunched the numbers and discovered that vampires are good for Hollywood. Very good. They estimate that between films, television, books, and other merchandise such as video games, the vampire genre has generated $7 billion for Hollywood since 2008. That’s the equivalent of a small nation’s GDP! True Blood and Charlaine Harris comprise a significant chunk of that revenue, but the Twilight movies own the biggest piece of the pie. Add in The Vampire Diaries and video games like Castlevania and you’ve got vampires in almost every area of entertainment.
What does this mean for fans? The phenomenon doesn’t appear to be waning just yet, so expect more vampires in your future. And for Moonlight fans, get those “I Told You So” letters ready to send to CBS.
