True Blood Fashion Q&A: The Season 3 Finale

True Blood sure knows how to dress their cast, often resulting in “where can I get that?” emails to us after an episode airs. If we get enough inquiries about an item, we’ll do our best to get the details for you, usually straight from the source – True Blood costume designer Audrey Fisher. This week we tackle some of your fashion questions from the season 3 finale, “Evil Is Going On”.

The Queen's dress generated more inquiries than any other costume.

Q. Hi there! I love your site and it has been a constant stop for my True Blood info. You have posted great info on previous outfits worn in episodes, and I was hoping you could find out about the Queens outfit in the season finale of season 3. That  black satin 1950’s dress and feather hat is AMAZING! and I would love to know if it was vintage or new and where to get it! – Kimberly

A. You’re not alone, Kimberly. Within 24 hours of the True Blood season finale, we’d had no less than a dozen inquiries about that dress, a new record! We were pretty sure that was an Audrey Fisher original, but we went to the source to be sure. Audrey confirmed that she designed Queen Sophie-Anne’s “widow’s weeds” and her team built the dress in-house for the occasion.

Unfortunately this means that the dress can’t be purchased anywhere. However, if you’re handy with a sewing machine, or know someone who is that happens to owe you a favor, take a look at these vintage 1950s dress patterns for some similar dresses that could be altered to match the Queen’s. The adorable feathered hat is another custom creation, a collaboration between Audrey and Lola of lola hats.

Q. Love the site.  I have one of those Fashion questions for you ladies (or I guess Audrey).  I was wondering if you could tell me where the grey denim shirt Bill was wearing in the beginning of episode 309 (right after the shower scene, during the werewolf clean up) was from. – T

A. Bill wore this same shirt in the season finale, so we thought we’d answer your question now, T. The shirt is a gray chambray work shirt by RRL, one of the Ralph Lauren brands, and is readily available on eBay.

Q. Any ideas where I can find some of the dresses Sookie wore in Season 3? I am looking for the one in Season 3 finale. Light blue, yellow sundress. – Debbie

A. That’s another in-house design and creation, Debbie. Audrey likes to create Sookie’s costumes herself, so most of them are originals or altered finds from consignment stores.
