Ryan Kwanten Covers Men’s Health
Ryan Kwanten shows off his True Blood body on the November cover of Men’s Health magazine, hitting newsstands tomorrow. In the interview, he talks about his unusual drinking habit, resilience to rejection and fitness secrets.
Ryan Kwanten has an unusual drinking habit: He’ll toss back a few, start to feel bold and then sign up for an organized athletic competition:
“I’ve been known to turn up drunk at triathlons and do very well.”
On competing…
“The worst bit of advice you can give someone is, ‘Turn there, I know a shortcut.’ There is no shortcut.”
On his ability to bounce back…
“I have that sporting background where I want to be the best, I want to be the champion. If I’m knocked down, you’re damn sure I’m getting back up again. A lot of actors who may very well be more talented than me don’t have that kind of tenacity in the face of rejection. That resilience gives me a distinct advantage.”
On working out…
“I’m not one of those actors who gets physically fit for a role and then loses it all again. I’m very rarely in the gym. My workouts are predominantly outside, in nature.”
On taking stress outside…
“Just breathe some fresh air. You don’t have to be going at a cracking pace. For me, it beats the hell out of the gym.”
On yoga…
“I used to laugh at anyone suggesting it. Guys fear not being the best in these classes, but over time, you learn how to spend an hour not worrying about what anyone else is thinking. For guys especially, that’s a good thing.”
