Book Review: ‘Afterlife’ Concludes Evernight Series

Afterlife is a Young Adult novel, so I placed it in the capable hands of a young adult. Mikayla is my 14-year old daughter who loves to read, and dabbles in writing her own stories. Book stores and libraries are her candy store. Her current interest runs to the paranormal, so I’m indulging her. I can’t think of anyone more qualified to review this book.

Afterlife by Claudia Gray

Afterlife is a paranormal adventure about vampires, bloodlust, wraiths, and a school called Evernight Academy.

This story is mostly about two immortal teenagers. A couple named Bianca and Lucas. Both of them must face the dangers before them at Evernight Academy. Bianca is a wraith, and Lucas has just been turned into a vampire, so he’s having a lot of trouble keeping himself under control around humans, especially, Bianca’s human friend, Vic. Bianca, Lucas, Vic, and Bianca’s other friends, Balthazar and Ranulf, discover that the Evernight teacher, Mrs. Bethany, is a vampire, and has set up traps all over Evernight Academy to capture wraiths. Including Bianca!

It was difficult for me to get into this story because I haven’t read the first three of this series yet. I liked when things began to heat up between some of the students and the vampires and fighting broke out. Things got pretty hairy for a while there, but it did end well, especially for Bianca and Lucas. It was quite the surprising ending too!

I would like to recommend this book to fans of vampire stories, but I think you should read the first two before picking up this one. Ms. Gray tells a really good and romantic story and I am inspired to read those first three books (Evernight, Stargazer and Hourglass) myself after reading Afterlife.

Over-night fan (almost literally) of the Sookie Stackhouse series since early 2008. Co-owner of True-Blood.net. Anxiously anticipating season 6.
