Friday Five: True Blood Heroes

Last week, I listed my top five picks for True Blood villains. This week, we’ll go in the opposite direction with my list of five heroes from the show’s 4 seasons.

  1. Jason Stackhouse – He may have started out one chicken nugget short of a Happy Meal, but this guy has come a long way and been through things that have made him adjust his values a bit. He may still be lacking a bit of oxygen to the brain cells, but he’s got guts and he is slowly growing some common sense. Give this guy a super-hero cape!
  2. Terry Bellefleur – Terry is the perfect hero, for Bon Temps. First of all, he married Arlene. That should be enough, but he also took her two kids and a baby that wasn’t even his. Willing to raise Rene’s child as his own, he has been every bit as excited about the little guy as a natural father would be. Give him a super-suit!
  3. Sam Merlotte – This guy has to be in this category. Even though he’s done some pretty bad things in his past, Sam has tried his best to be a good and fair boss and friend. He’s the one you know you can go to if you need help. He tried helping his little brother out, even tried helping out his mother, even though that all went nowhere. He was there for Tara and Jessica as well, giving them both jobs at Merlotte’s when they were down on their luck. I think that deserves a super-hero vehicle of his choice.
  4. Godric – I could not have a list like this without including Godric. He was such a great example for vampires and humans alike. He is the definition of hero. One pair of super-hero boots that no one else can fill, please.
  5. Ginger – Come on, I had to! She’s brave enough (or desperate enough) to remain at Fangtasia, in spite of being constantly terrified by Eric, Pam and whoever works the bar at the time. She does whatever she is asked, whether she likes it or not, even if it means enduring Pam’s cursing as she administers injections or riding Pam’s fluffy pink coffin like a cowgirl on a rampage. Give that girl a super-hero shield!

The proper definition of hero reads “a man (or woman) of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” With that in mind, who would be on your list?

Over-night fan (almost literally) of the Sookie Stackhouse series since early 2008. Co-owner of True-Blood.net. Anxiously anticipating season 6.
