True Blood Fashion Q&A: The Leather Jacket Edition
If there’s one item of clothing guaranteed to have True Blood fans flying to their keyboards to inquire where to find their own, it’s a leather jacket. No matter who’s wearing it, you all want it. So this week, just in time for cooler weather, we’ve asked True Blood costume designer Audrey Fisher for the scoop on leather jackets for men, women, vampires, faeries, and witches.
Q. Hi Ladies! Did anyone else notice that fabulous jacket that Nan was wearing in “Let’s Get Out of Here”? When she was sitting at Bill’s desk listening to Jessica drone on and on about her love life problems? Who made the jacket? It’s gorgeous and tough at the same time! – Lyn
A. Yes, we did notice and so did a lot of you! Audrey revealed that Nan’s fabulous, and in demand, jacket is by Skingraft, a Los Angeles-based design company. Skingraft is a favorite of celebs and vampires: Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore wears the Skingraft leather Studded Jacket in the new promo stills for The Vampire Diaries.
Q. I was just wondering what kind of black leather jacket Bill Compton was wearing in “Spellbound”?Who is the designer? It’s a pretty radical jacket. I’d love to pick one up. Could you please put a link up of where I can purchase it. We are all very grateful of your work. I’m such a huge fan, Thank You. – Ismael
A. Bill’s majestic leather jacket is by All Saints, Audrey tells us, a favorite brand of hers for the men of True Blood. That exact style is no longer available, but the Lindaman from their Fall/Winter 2011 collection is very similar. It comes in three colors, too!
Q. Dying to know where Sookie’s leather jacket from the season 4 finale is from! I gotta have it! – Carley
A. You and what seems like every other woman watching, Carley! Inquiries about this piece started coming in within minutes of the episode airing on the East coast, so we immediately asked Audrey to help us out. It’s the Madewell leather moto jacket in hthr acrn (I guess they don’t like vowels) with the straps on the cuffs removed. They only have size small left in stock, so act fast!
Q. I just finished watching episode 4.11 and I fell in love with Jessica’s leather jacket! It’s to die for! Do you know where I could find it? Thanks! – Brigitte
A. Jessica’s choice for a witch war? The Q40 Vanish leather jacket in navy! Audrey opted to put her in navy instead of black, and it looked amazing with her hair and skin.
Q. Can you please tell me who makes Luna’s leather jacket in episode 11? If not available any longer, where kind I find a similar one? – Victoria
A. You’ve got this routine figured out, don’t you Victoria? Audrey tells us that she’s had that jacket in Luna’s closet for more than a year now, and removed the tag, so she couldn’t tell us the brand. She did reveal that she picked it up at LF on Robertson in Los Angeles, and originally it had a fur collar which she removed. It’s a caramel color, bomber-style jacket, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find an alternative. I like this feminine version by Hinge or this classic by Lafayette 148 (no relation to our Lala).
Q. What brand is the leather jacket Jason Stackhouse had on after he and Jessica….were in the back of the truck bed? – Travis
A. Such tact, Travis. Jason could learn a thing or two from you. It’s a vintage jacket that Audrey picked that up at a secondhand shop so it would look suitably worn. (I know that’s a terrible photo of Jason in that jacket, but it’s the best I could find. Thanks to HBO, we now have an excellent shot of Jason in that jacket!)
