Sam’s Mission: True Blood Discussion Post

“New World In My View” was the shortest episode of the season, but was jammed with action and suspense. And Jason with a chainsaw.  How clever was that plan to rescue Sam? Jason finally used his head with hilarious but effective results. Sam and Andy are lured to Merlotte’s, because apparently they’ve never seen a horror film, and end up barricaded in the walk-in cooler while the black-eyed mob declared mission accomplished and went back to their orgy. After a loving warning from Sookie, Jason goes all Rambo with his chainsaw and nail gun, culminating in that awesome “I am god!” performance to free Sam. We wondered why Sam didn’t just shift when the mob was after him earlier, but after he offered himself up to ensure Andy and Jason got away, his motives were clearer. Then when he did shift, it was perfect timing. Jason and Andy better not let him slide on telling them what happened!

Meanwhile, Maxine Fortenberry has invaded Bill’s house and gone nuts, finally getting on Jessica’s last nerve.
“Lady, you have no idea how little control I have over my actions. And I haven’t eaten in days.” Did Jessica actually bite Maxine? Will Hoyt be able to forgive her for that?

Sookie returns home to see that Maryann has constructed a grotesque meat sculpture in the front yard and decked out the house for the upcoming sacrifice. Like Sookie, we still aren’t sure what happened during her confrontation with Maryann. Best face shove ever, but why? And now that Maryann knows Sookie is something “other”, will she pursue her instead of Sam?

We liked seeing Sookie and Bill work together to break through to Tara after the traditional intervention was unsuccessful. Lafayette, the man of unexpected depths, was alternately profound and hilarious throughout the ordeal. Will Bill accept his explanation for why he’s dealing V? Will Tara be able to rescue Eggs from Maryann?

Finally, Bill went to get help defeating Maryann, leaving us with the tantalizing image of a bloody leg as the episode ended. Can Sookie stay away from her house as Bill ordered? Would she be able to “white light” Maryann again if necessary? And how prescient was Bill’s comment, “No offense, Sookie, but humans are shockingly susceptible to thought manipulation.” Was that a reference to the way the episode opened, with Sookie again dreaming about Eric?

For every question that’s answered, two more come in its place. Remember, no spoilers for future episodes in the comments.
