It was “the kiss heard ’round the world” when Sookie kissed Eric in True Blood episode 4.05, “Me and the Devil”. It was an epic moment for many, and the music scoring the scene did a beautiful job of heightening the emotions playing out on screen. So much so that our Inbox was flooded with requests for information about that song! We’re always happy to help Truebies track down information, so we went right to the source: True Blood composer Nathan Barr.

“Alan Ball asked that this kiss between Eric and Sookie be an enormous moment musically since so many fans have been waiting for this moment to happen for quite some time!” Nate says. “I went big with the musical arrangement of Eric and Sookie’s theme, then threw in the kitchen sink, and it worked and we all felt it was appropriately huge for the moment.”

In addition, Nate chose a one-of-a-kind bowed instrument with 30 strings called a Guitarangi to perform the music for the scene. “It has an ancient sound that feels appropriate to someone of Eric’s age,” he explains. Hand crafted from top to bottom, relive the moment and the music in the clip below.
