Jason Stackhouse

Jason Stackhouse is Sookie’s older brother. When we first meet him he is working as a road crew supervisor for Renard Parish, where Bon Temps is situated. A hit with the ladies, Jason is well known in and around the town as a womanizer. He’s selfish and childish and Sookie often has to help him out of trouble that results from this.

In the first season, all fingers point to Jason when the women that he involves himself with begin turning up dead. Sookie has her hands full when she tries to prove her brother’s innocence, and when the real killer is revealed, Jason is off the hook but not without losing some of the shine off his crown.

Jason doesn’t help himself much when he gets hooked on V – vampire blood that when taken by humans, acts like a hallucinogenic drug. His addiction leads him to Amy, a 1970’s-like hippie girl who uses and sells V. She ultimately becomes the last victim of the Bon Temps killer and Jason ‘sobers’ up.

In season two, Jason joins The Fellowship of the Sun, a pseudo-Christian cult, and meets leaders Steve and Sarah Newlin. Basically trading one addiction for another, Jason throws himself into the cult, becoming the Newlins’ favorite soldier. He moves in with them and begins an affair with Sarah, who isn’t nearly as pure as she’d like everyone to believe. When Sarah suspects that the affair has been discovered by her husband, she shoots at Jason, but misses. He returns to Bon Temps only to find it a very different town than when he left, having been taken over by the maenad, Maryann. At the end of the season, Jason shoots and kills Eggs (who is under the influence of Maryann) when he sees him attacking Deputy Andy Bellefleur.

In season three, when Andy gets the credit for killing Eggs, Jason blackmails him to get a job at the Sheriff’s office. This is the year Jason begins to mature. His responsibilities on the force encourage him to take up the mantle of protector of the citizens in a tiny nearby town called Hotshot. He begins seeing Crystal Norris, who’s fiance and father are the town’s leaders. When she is kidnapped by her fiance at gunpoint, Jason returns to Bon Temps, dejected, but just in time to kill Franklin Mott when he sees him going after Tara.

Jason stays with the police force and becomes Andy’s partner and begins to reinvent himself in his home town. It is Jason who helps Andy through his own V addiction. Jason survives rape by almost all the women of Hotshot, as they try to reproduce through him. He escapes, but barely, with his life. Hoyt Fortenberry, Jason’s best friend, and Jessica Hamby, a baby vampire sired by Bill Compton, find Jason collapsed on the side of the road and bring him home. It’s been a pivotal time for Jason as his own womanizing actions visit him in a brutal way. Hotshot changes Jason.

Jason’s road to responsible brother and citizen is paved with many dangers including a crazy witch, fairies, Steve Newlin turned vampire (and revealing a raging crush on Jason), and the Vampire Authority Headquarters. Along the way he loses his best friend, strengthens his relationship with his sister, and meets his great-grandfather.

In season six, Jason attempts to right a lot of his wrongs by trying to rescue Jessica from Sarah Newlin’s vampire camp. His plans go awry when he comes face-to-face with Sarah’s hatred and anger and he himself becomes imprisoned. Sarah cuts Jason’s arm and throws him in with the starving female vampires, but he is rescued by Tara, who is challenged by newcomer Violet for ownership of Jason – and wins. Violet is a very old and strong vampire and no one questions her authority.

Violet helps Jason protect Sookie when Warlow, a very old vampire/ fairy hybrid who has been hunting the Stackhouses for a very long time, tries to make Sookie his vampire/fae bride. It is Jason who destroys Warlow in the end, rescuing Sookie from a terrible fate.

After the time jump at the end of season six, Jason is still with Violet and seems to be happy – if a bit unfulfilled – with her.
