REPORT: Charlaine Harris in Houston (minor spoilers)

True-Blood.net member Avalonia was fortunate enough to attend the Q&A/booksigning with Charlaine Harris in Houston on January 6, and graciously sent along a report for us to share. NOTE: There are some minor spoilers for those who have not read the books!

Got there early, very early, and were some of the first to stand in line to buy a copy of the hardback Living Dead in Dallas. Everyone got a number (I was 54) so they could call us up in groups of 15 at time to get autographs…lucky we did this because people were allowed to get as many as six books signed at a time and everyone wanted their moment with Charlaine. By the time I got up there they were worrying about the library closing because of the time and asking locals to please drop off their books and Murder by the Book would be sure to get it signed and you could pick it/them back up at the store after the event.

By the time Charlaine was ready to speak all chairs were filled (about a 300 capacity room but am not sure how many seats they actually put out).  The library was recently redone so I guess they hadn’t worked out the whole air conditioning thing because the room was stiffling and the seat were a little too close for comfort but it was well worth it to be there. There was a short Q & A were you had to wait to get called on. I didn’t so I was unable to ask a few of the questions I was given. There will be a transcript of the whole thing provided by Murder by the Book. I will let you have it as soon as it is available.

One of the best questions was about Eric and what we can expect from him in this next book now that he has his memories. Looks like we’ll have some steamy parts with Eric in this next addition. When it was my turn to go up there I asked her if Jason will ever be able to redeem himself after the whole breaking Calvin’s hand debacle and she said she doesn’t see how that’s possible. Someone asked if she would consider doing a spin off and who she’d choose; she said she hadn’t planned on any but after a minute’s thought she said maybe Stan or the King of Mississippi. I would have thought Amelia would be a good choice myself. Someone asked the “How many more books?” question to which she replied she only had 1 more under contract! After the gasps died down she laughed and assured the crowd she was very confident her publisher would be happy to make a new contract.

She really didn’t have time to do any of her own discussion as planned because they were so worried about time. I would have loved any insight, spoilers, or other such things we could have learned but was happy with what I got.

Thanks, Avalonia!
