A Re-review of True Blood

I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of this kind of thing going on with this show. It’s not often that a pilot episode is so good that it makes you want to come back for more. There’s usually a ‘settling in’ period that takes place. Which is why, when a new show starts, I try to give it three or four episodes before I decide whether or not I want to stay around.

Since I am already a fan of Sookie’s, I have already decided that I’m going to watch True Blood faithfully from the beginning. However, I understand that many will not have read these books. I also understand that the show will only be based on the books written by Charlaine Harris. That means that I won’t expect Alan Ball to give me exactly what Charlaine Harris did.

All I can say is give this show a chance, if you are fans of the genre at all. Things that seem odd or out of place in the pilot may very well be explained in future episodes. I don’t know of any show on television today that explains everything in that first episode. (“Heroes” anyone?) There’s always something thrown in that makes you wonder what the creators of the show are going to do with “that”. I’m baffled by the reviews I’ve seen of True Blood that are actually irked by this, as if it’s never been done before. To me, there’s nothing like being left wondering at the end of an episode what will happen to whom. For those of us who have read the books and know what happens, it’s the excitement of seeing it all come to life on our tv screens. For those who have not, get ready for some good times ahead!

Over-night fan (almost literally) of the Sookie Stackhouse series since early 2008. Co-owner of True-Blood.net. Anxiously anticipating season 6.
