True Blood Fashion: The Ladies Man

Aside from Sam, whose uniform of jeans and a plaid shirt raises its own questions about the character, Jason Stackhouse is the  most casually-attired guy in Bon Temps. With women throwing themselves at him no matter what he wears, he doesn’t need to put much effort into anything more than a pair serviceable blue jeans and a t-shirt. Which is why this season’s sudden wardrobe upgrade is noteworthy.

Jason_workingThe Working Man
Jason is a manual laborer, putting in back-breaking hours with the Bon Temps Parish road crew, and his rugged wardrobe reflects that. Blue jeans (just a little on the tight side, please) and sleeveless shirts are his go-to basics for working outside in humid, swampy Louisiana. Nothing fancy here, just dark colors, a belt with his knife and phone or a tool belt, and a ball cap. Showing off those arms is just an added benefit. (Get the look: jeans, tank top, ball cap)

Jason is well aware of his physical attractions and doesn’t hesitate to feature them, ‘though he still favors the basics even when he gets all dolled up for a visit to the local vampire bar. A black cowboy shirt, unbuttoned to show a nice expanse of chest and paired with his usual jeans, is all the confident Jason needs to pick up chicks. No, Jason isn’t subtle. His triumph on the (flag) football field is enjoyed more when shirtless, after he whips his Bon Temps Football t-shirt and ties it around his head. A certain preacher’s wife certainly noticed. And how about that belt buckle? It’s practically a beacon against his navy t-shirt and mended jeans, a perfect blend of boyishness and sex appeal. Of course Jason probably hasn’t consciously put that look together to appeal to both the maternal and lustful sides of Bon Temps’ female residents, but it certainly gets the job done. (Get the look: Bon Temps Football T-shirt, black cowboy shirt, navy t-shirt, eagle belt buckle)

Jason_buttonedupThe Penitent
Jason’s casually sexy wardrobe disappeared once he dove headfirst into the Light of Day Institute. Determined to put his sinful past behind him and answer “the call”, Jason used his inheritance from Uncle Bartlett to buy a pair of Dockers (no way did he already have those in his closet!), some new plaid shirts – buttoned almost to the collar and covering his arms – and a tie. He even bought a new belt with an inconspicuous buckle. It’s as if he’s hoping that in this case, clothes will make him a pious man. (Get the look: Dockers, yellow plaid shirt, leather belt)

All the khaki pants and plaid shirts in the world couldn’t keep Jason on the path of piety for long, though, especially once he discovered that his sister was in danger. He returned to his sleeveless shirts and big belt buckles, but with a new sense of purpose. His carefree days are over and now he accessorizes with hunting vests and nail guns, putting his guerilla warfare training to good use in the fight for Bon Temps. That’s right, Jason has gone commando in the true sense of the word, and woe to any black-eyed weirdos who get in his path. (Get the look: knit cap, hunting vest, nail gun)

Will Jason’s gradual and reluctant progress into maturity continue? Even if he does become a respectable, settled adult, don’t expect to see him back in Dockers or a tie on a regular basis. Jason is all about the basics: a good pair of jeans, a comfy t-shirt, a cold beer, and good friends.
